however please keep these in mind:
- it's not the final machine: don't put too much effort in creating
nice build scripts as we'll reset it to clean state soon. We *might*
be able to store jobs defined so far, but we might choose not to.
- domain name should be coming: ci.hibernate.org ..not sure when, got
no replies so far from.
- authentication: just click on login, it will use OAuth2 to request
your identity via your GitHub account. Permissions to create new jobs,
edit existing jobs, run a build manually depend on your github account
be part of the Hibernate organization (or not, in which case you have
read only status)
At this stage I'd like to get a feeling if the hardware is powerful
enough, and also we need to select which other plugins we want to use,
I'm looking especially to:
- static analysis reports
- pull requests integration
both are relatively undefined, we can of course start simple and
improve later.. just checking this fits basic needs now.

Currently Oracle supports database versions from 10.1 to 11.2 [1]. LONG
and LONG RAW data types are deprecated since version 8 and 8i (released
before September 2000) [2]. Oracle keeps those column types only for
backward compatibility [3].
I tried the following scenario (Oracle 10gR2):
1. Create schema with "hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto" set to "create". The LONG
column is created.
2. Insert some data.
3. Modify Oracle dialect as Gail suggested. Avoid setting
"hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto".
4. Insert some data.
To my surprise the test actually passed :). However, I think that we
cannot guaranty the proper behavior in every situation.
As for performance, ImageType is extracted by calling
ResultSet.getBytes() method, which fetches all data in one call [4]. I
don't suppose a major performance difference when data is streamed in
another call. oracle.jdbc.driver.LongRawAccessor.getBytes also fetches
data by reading the stream.
The bug reading LONG column affects JDBC drivers since version 10.2.0.4.
I think that we have to choose between:
- changing Oracle10gDialect. Make a not about it in migration guide to
4.0 and update "5.2.2. Basic value types" chapter in Hibernate
documentation.
- introducing Oracle11gDialect. It can sound weird to access Oracle 10g
database with Oracle 11g dialect.
- disabling execution of Hibernate tests that fail because of this issue
with @SkipForDialect (and maybe develop another version of them with
CLOBs and BLOBs, @RequiresDialect). Hibernate is written correctly
according to "Default Mappings Between SQL Types and Java Types"
(referenced earlier by Gail) and this is more Oracle's JDBC
implementation issue. This option came to my mind, but it's weird :P.
I would vote for the first option.

Changelog file in Hibernate ORM

The file changelog.txt in the root ot the Hibernate ORM project seems outdated.
Is it not maintained anymore? I found it handy.

In JIRA I'm seeing this permanent message:

So have we abandoned the self sign-up? Why is this, due to spamming issues?
Not sure whether it's really a problem, but this may raise the barrier for
getting a JIRA account and thus stop some new users from reporting bugs.

Gradle not running some unit tests

Hello all,
Willing to investigate some Hibernate bugs, I downloaded the sources (from github), compiled them and ran unit tests. I used the provided Gradle wrapper to compile and run the tests. However, hibernate-core/target/reports/tests/index.html reports a number of test classes as not containing any tests. I mainly looked at org.hibernate.test.cut.CompositeUserTypeTest, and I can tell that:
* it contains two method annotated with @org.junit.Test
* it extends org.hibernate.testing.junit4.BaseUnitTestCase
(through BaseCoreFunctionalTestCase), which has a
@org.junit.runner.RunWith annotation.
>From what I know of Gradle, this is enough to have the tests detected and ran. And actually, those tests *are* detected and ran on branch 4.2. But on branch master, this test class appears in the report with 0 tests within.
Does anyone know why those tests are missing from the report?

Exposing Hibernate statistics via JMX

Steve, all,
I've been asked about the Hibernate statistics functionality which used to
be accessible via JMX.
There used to be StatisticsService which was an MBean and which one could
register with the JMX platform. This has been removed a while ago, and
there is the related issue HHH-6190 which still is open.
Until this is resolved, what is the recommended strategy towards making the
statistics available via JMX? Should users create and export their own
MBean based on SessionFactory#getStatistics()? Or is there any other
replacement for StatisticsService?

JdbcSession proposal

the next stage with some actual interfaces, impls and usages to help
illustrate some of the proposed concepts.
