JCR2.0 spec may help somewhat. this would involve restoring multiple workspaces (I am guessing) after the main one is restored (so all the verison history is there). NOt sure how to do this in a general way. The main use case for this is migrating between say jackrabbit, and alfresco. Backup and restore is another.
