That's why we haven't done it, to be honest :) There are two solutions, and both have serious downsides: * Upgrade to Avro 1.10 in Hibernate Search 5.10.x. While it may be technically feasible, I don't think such an upgrade fits the concept of a micro update, for backward compatibility reasons I mentioned earlier. * Upgrade to Avro 1.10 in a new Hibernate Search 5.12. Indeed it would involve other breaking changes, such as upgrading WildFly to Hibernate ORM 5.4 (which is something to be discussed separately). On a side note, the next major version of Hibernate Search, Hibernate Search 6, no longer includes any of the features that rely on Avro. So, short of unexpected roadmap changes, the dependency to Avro is bound to disappear once WildFly upgrades to Hibernate Search 6.
