ProxyFactory.getHandler should read the instance handler field, not the static
default_interceptor field.
This can be worked around by creating a proxy class each time an instance is created, but

Serializing a proxy object is tricky because the class of that proxy object is dynamically
created.
There is no way to serialize the definition of that dynamically created class as far as I
know.
That's why fixing JASSIST-42 is not easy.
However, this problem could be fixed. Pete, can you kindly post a simple short test code
(I mean, a unit test). It really helps the work. Thanks.

Here is a test which shows serialization of a "global" handler (a handler which
is assigned to the proxy class) working, but not working for an "instance"
handled (a handler which is assigned to a proxy instance) being lost.
Note that the handler itself implements Serializable, so can be serialized along with the

BTW I'm not sure this is exactly the same problem as JASSIST-42, as that is talking
about user defined classes, whilst I am talking about serializing the handler instance

It is the same issue when you look at how the code is implemented. To solve JASSIST-42,
you'd have to serialize the proxy class definition as part of the class descriptor,
and the handler would then be serialized normally (as an instance field of the proxy
class), but you can't solve one without solving the other.

Sort of unrelated (and I apologize for that), but Hibernate users are reporting issues
with enhancing classes that have an attribute named 'handler' and thus a getter of
getHandler() because it clashes with ProxyObject#getHandler(). They pointed to this issue
as having possibly fixed that temporarily.
Anyway, is this problem known and being worked on by renaming that method?
