But the value of the field is "null".
The cause:
The converter ID is retrieved in class org.jbpm.db.hibernate.Converter at line 63.
For the case of the SerializableToByteArrayConverter the ID is "null".

I am having the same issue as well. I have a business Object that implements
Serializable. However jBPM just fails to deserialize the process variable. based on
documentation, it is supposed to handle any object that is serializable, but it does
not!!
I have made the business object as little as with three instance variables of type String.
It still does NOT work.

Sorry, this is the error I get:
Error getting variable map: An exception of type "org.jbpm.JbpmException" was
thrown. The message is: couldn't deserialize object
Unfortunately, the exception is swallowed somewhere in the execution path. Based on
source code, its clear that it is unable to
readObject() for some reason. However like I mentioned before, my class implements
java.io.Serializable and all it has are three string instance variables.

we need more info to be able to reproduce it.
A stack trace or something like that. Are you sure that your environment is clean?
Can't it be the case that your class files have changed between serialization and
deserialization ?

Tom, like I mentioned above, the exeception swallowed somewhere down the execution path.
I don't see the full stk trace.
Also the class has no change between serialization and deserialization. In fact I dont
reload the class at all.
The class is Serializable.
The class has the required serialVersionUID member as well.
I am wondering if my hibernate settings could be wrong. Would that make any difference?

business object is one of the important evaluation criteria. jBPM and one other

Also the test case that you have mentioned uses all kinda of deprecated classes. (such as
JbpmSession) However the deprecation notice doesn't seem to point to correct
alternatives: Deprecated. use org.jbpm.tc.ContextBuilder and
org.jbpm.tc.db.JbpmSessionContext instead.
In version 3.2 I don't find a ContextBuilder class. (and there is infact no tc
