renaming to guess.war did not result in any success either, interesting that a trailing /
is added in the URL when hitting either http://localhost:8080/guess becomes

Okay so this file is not exactly the right format as it was intended to be unzipped in a
lab,but a badly formatted war file should result in an error message, and not a message

There is nothing ( atleast I did not find ) in specs about WEB-INF beeing non mandatory:
- specs(3.0)
A special directory exists within the application hierarchy named “WEB-INF”.
- sun blueprints
Also under the context root is the WEB-INF directory, which contains files that are
not intended to be served to clients. The WEB-INF directory has a specific structure, and
has the following contents:
* The deployment descriptor file, called web.xml
* .....
So it seems it is mandatory, even though in some cases it is not needed ( pure JSP app ).

I stand corrected. Seems that specs are quite elusive in this place. However since there
is no direct statement "MUST", it is not mandatory.
Attached WAR nesting is bad, but still it is deployed. It can be accessed via:
http://localhost:8080/guessv4/guessv2.war/index.jsp
As you can see context root for root WAR is 'guessv2', second is full file name as
subdeployment.
Rejecting as this is not a valid issue.
