From what I've seen, this seems to be an issue with the Oracle
driver's handling of streams.

I'm using Oracle9i Release 9.2.0.4.0 using the OCI driver. I solved replacing
jackrabbit 1.0 with jackrabbit 1.1 and using the OraclePersistenceManager and
OracleFilesystem with a little patch.
Then i changed the portal.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml.
Off course my workaround is good only for Oracle, your problem is related to
HibernatePersistenceManager and HibernateFilesystem.
I've attached my jboss-service.xml, my pathed OraclePersistenceManager.java and
OracleFilesystem.java.

This issue is related mostly to oracle and how it handles streams, because the people that
code the oracle driver are clowns in more ways than just this. We'll have QA look at
this, as with other DBs, inreasing the heap size solves the problem. For oracle we may
need to make a custom usertype for hibernate to work with exclusively.

This issue is fixed now.
The problem was with the postgres and oracle jdbc driver implementations not handling
BLOBs properly within the context of a Hibernate transaction.
Hibernate typically does not flush changes to the database right away, but optimizes
database access by flushing data to the database later during a transaction.
However, these two drivers if not flushed right away, result in loss of the BLOB data
Solution: Manual flushing is done the moment the BLOB data is inserted/updated or removed
Solution tested on:
Postgresql 8.2
Oracle 10g Express
