Looks like (see [2]) Square indicates to get rid of their own fork,
which is a good sign.

patch to the project (see [2]). The project is a bit in-active, but
not its community. There are some 'maintained' forks out there
(including one by Square Inc).
Ideally all the forks would be merged into one 'unified' version of
the java-apns library. I raised that issue in [2] and other were
talking about that too.
Right now there is a (little) chance that we will join forces and this
would also mean that there will be (frequently) release out on maven
central.
If you have any thoughts on this, let me know.
