[gsoc] To the students
by Anil Saldhana
Hi students,
thank you so much for all your wonderful proposals. Now it is time
for you to sit back and wait.
GSOC forbids us from announcing student acceptance/rejection at least
for 2 weeks from today. During this time, the administrators will be
working with the gsoc office on getting slot allotted and other logistics.
If a mentor asks for information on your proposal, please provide it to
them.
Regards,
Anil

[gsoc] Limited number of students
by Houssem BELHADJ AHMED
I'm not sure about the information, is that true that all new organization
(never participated in gsoc before) have a limited number of students (1 or
2) ? because it's the case of JBoss here. It's the first time that JBoss
community participate independently in the gsoc program.
Would you please update the description of the project in gsoc page so we
will have more chance to get more places :).
regards,
Houssem

[gsoc] a mentor for the mentors
by Dan Allen
Fellow GSoC mentors,
I met Donnie Berkholz [1] from RedMonk [2] at EclipseCon last week. We got
to talking to him about the JBoss Community's participation in the GSoC
program. He asked if this was the first time JBoss was participating
independently as an organization, as he was aware we had joined forces with
Fedora in the past. When I acknowledged that this is our first year, and
that many of the mentors are first-timers as well, he extended an offer to
serve as a mentor for our mentors and organization. In short, he said
(paraphrased):
"If you have any questions or need advice, please feel free to reach out."
His contact information (email and telephone #) is listed on his home page
[1]. You can also try to ping him via twitter [3].
If there are open questions, don't hesitate to reach out to him to get them
resolved asap.

[gsoc] [gsoc12] Implement a big screen dashboard for RHQ
by manu [ranga]
I am interested in $subject idea and currency preparing a proposal.
background:
During my last year's internship at WSO2[1] I did a somewhat similar
project. it allows the users to generate dashboards containing various
types of visualizations. Data is pulled via Ajax and graphs are updated
dynamically. Users can configure types, size and placement of graphs.
It’s integrated to WSO2 BAM 2 alpha [2] release so far. I have a very
good grasp on javascript, java and interested in data visualization.
Requirement as I understood it:
1. User select "create new dashboard"
2. A wizard will guide the user through visualization configuration steps.
3. It will let user to select data source (metric), size, type, color,
positioning etc.
4. Dashboard war will be published and user will receive a URL to access it.
I would appreciate if you can clarify some of the following questions:
1. It this implementing going to be independent of the GWT base
visualizations currently exists.
2. Should users be allowed to change/edit already created dashboard?
3. is there any required function points I missed?
thank you.
