I got the test-case working and I reproduced the error.
The order of the look-ups determines if a failure will occur or not. If the
"jms/RemoteConnectionFactory" lookup happens first then it will work and the
"java:/RemoteConnectionFactory" lookup will work and any subsequent lookups of
"jms/RemoteConnectionFactory" will work as well. The only time the error occurs
is if "java:/RemoteConnectionFactory" is looked up first, because it causes the
connection factory to be initialized differently than if it was looked up remotely first.
I can certainly change the
org.hornetq.api.core.client.loadbalance.RoundRobinConnectionLoadBalancingPolicy to be
serializable, but the test-case really shouldn't be looking up
"java:/RemoteConnectionFactory" in a client which is running locally in the
application server. Clients running in the local application server should use
"java:/ConnectionFactory" if they need a basic JMS connection factory.
I think we should remove <entry name="RemoteConnectionFactory"/> from the
server configurations to prevent the local lookup of the remote connection factory.
Stuart, can you do this?

I do lookup for RemoteConnectionFactory firstly locally in container and secondary via
remote client. Then the second (remote one) lookup for RemoteConnectionFactory fails with
