I think a better approach would be to do something like Torquebox does. Basically copy the Weld subsystem into a new repo, and make any changes that need to be made. Then provide an installer script or tool to allow you to install Weld 2.0 on any AS7 instance. We don't want to me maintaining two versions of the weld subsystem in AS7 upstream, especially as it is almost certainly not going to go into the AS until AS8.
