Time to time I need to have access to the filesystem from the CLI in order to read the content of a file or simply list the content of a directory. It seems that this requirement is in he same area. One possibility would be to put the CLI in background. For example Ctrl-Z, have the OS shell visible, do the OS stuff, and 'fg' the CLI back.
