theres nothing worthwhile that can be done since most of the calls have to be blocking.

Currently all XAResource calls proxy blocking to the server side.
Some of these can be handled on the client side to improve performance, by avoiding
remote call.
Investigate which calls can be handled locally - this may involve caching some state
locally.
