Yes, I was talking about Hudson as it is the primary environment for QE testing. If I run the tests locally on my laptop I usually don't need headless mode as I want to see how the test is going and thus see its actions performed in Firefox in front of my eyes. This is the reason why the tests look so at the moment. But I can change them to better fit to your requirements. On Hudson if you want to run a selenium test you need to enable 'Run Xvnc during build' and select some of selenium slaves at 'Label Expression'. Then the selenium test should work.
