I might be worth investigating the active/backup model from HornetQ. You could use the
journal file on a clustered file system (GFS2 and NFS are supported - NFS is only
supported under very specific configuration guidelines), and use the same file locking
semantics between the active and backup pair (multiple backups are supported too), and
then there is no need to use a slow object store, with communication channels for the fail
over. There is reduced complexity, no HA requirement on the database, and no need to
something to watch each node.
