jBPM BPEL 1.x and jBPM jPDL 3.x are built on a common process object model which is also part of jbpm-jpdl.jar. jPDL 4 and Nova Orchestra are built on the PVM, which is now separate from the jPDL 4 classes. Indeed, at some point jBPM BPEL users will have the option to migrate to Orchestra just like jPDL 3 users will be able to transition to jPDL 4.
