Actually the older releases are available on the repository if you're
building with maven 2 (or even Ivy):
http://repository.jboss.org/maven2/org/drools/drools-core/
If you're not using maven 2, that won't help much of course.

You are right "unacceptable" was not the appropriate word, I am sorry
about that and you are right about the own build.
I did know about the priority support on the paid version but I did not
know about downloads and QA. Do you mean that paid version does insure
backward compatibility?
