Hi All,
I am new to Drools and few thing what i am asking might not be
logically correct ( m sorry for that).
I have requirement as per that i have a bean with all the values
being populated and want to validate it and in case of any error update my
error (user defined) object with my own set of message and other details.
I searched the net for similar example but am not able to find some of the
below mentioned details. Please help me with following:
1. How to populate a user defined object in drl file and get the same object
in my java class.
2. What all different operation and methods are available in drools
(Couldn'dt find any concrete set: just tell me some urls)
3. I ma not able to find API for drools 5.3.0, please provide me the URL of
the same.

Usually you have facts defined by Java classes. What do you mean by
"getting the same object in my Java class"?
2. What all different operation and methods are available in drools
(Couldn'dt find any concrete set: just tell me some urls)
Drools is defined by the "Expert" manual, which is part of the download.
3. I ma not able to find API for drools 5.3.0, please provide me the
URL of
the same.
The API is described by Javadoc which is part of the download.

Hi Laune...Thanks for the quick reply..i believe i was not clear about my
while asking....let me give an example..
say i have an employee bean with properties the name, id, age, department
etc and i have an error bean say Errors with properties like fieldName,
message, expectedValue etc..
Now as per my requirement i have to validate all the properties of my
employee bean and in case some properties don't meet the expectation then
update the Errors object with suitable values and use the update Errors bean
for different purposes...
I could not see any example on this line..
Hope i am making some sense here
How can i achieve above mentioned scenario.

You would write rules for checking the fields of Employes, e.g.,
rule "must have department"
when
$e: Employee( department == null )
then
Errors e = new Errors();
e.setFieldName( "department" );
e.setMessage( "missing value" );
e.setEmployee( $e );
insert( e );
end
You might not have to insert e. You might want to retract the Employee fact.

we write rules where we are checking for employee department if its null
then create the new error object and set the values of all the properties
and then call the insert(e)...
how have few more queries on this:
1. How to retrieve the updated error object in java class from where i am
triggering the rules.
2. In case if i have check for another property say employeeName and if it
is null again create a new error object and call insert(e). in this case
will the previous error object be lost if not how will retrieve these two
error objects back in my calling class.

My suggestion would be:
1) Ensure you have read the Drools Expert user-guide
2) Insert a new Error fact for each validation error you find (possibly
associating the original domain object with the error, it's up to you)
3) Use a Query to retrieve Error objects.

Check the topic "Query" in the "Expert" manual. Also, you need not
insert; you could use a global (java.util.List) variable (again:
"Expert") for collecting these objects.

Sigh. You are asking absolutely basic questions. How about reading the
"Expert" manual and studying the examples? You won't be able to avoid
this, and the earlier you do it, the better.
There is no loss of data except for inserting equal facts in a
non-default operational mode for your session.
