+1, I prefer minimal changes in the source code, especially if there
is no gain in exchange of the trouble of dealing with source changes.
If I recall correctly the point was that the notice is not that
important, that the root documentation is more suited for legal
matters, and the main role of the notice on each source is to make
sure people see it also when looking at the sources out of context
(like found the single class on the web).
Adding my own personal opinion on top of legal (which is obviously
worthless if compared): I'd never remove the oldest date, as if any
doubt arises about copied code, the matter usually is about who made
it first.
For these two principles (oldest is fine + minimal changes desired) I
have Eclipse setup with a template which inserts the current year on
it, and don't trouble further.
