What's the correct technique where a client application is needing to use dynamically generated stubs? Presumably the compilation occurs on the server and the stub is sent down to the client. Does the generated code do runtime lookup of the ORB to use in the client JVM? How do I interfere with that process, since ORBInitialContextFactory is not present on the client? Or do I need to add it to the client classpath, even though it's part of the /server/lib not /client/lib It seems like if I can do a ORBInitialContextFactory.setORB(myORB); in the client and the dynamically loaded stubs will respect it then that should work?

BTW the Forum is for Design questions for the JBoss Messaging implementation. Please post these types of questions on the user forums.
That said
You can invoke any JMX MBean remotely by simply looking up the RMIAdaptor in JNDI.
Here's some sample code for doing this
| String connectorName="jmx/rmi/RMIAdaptor";
| RMIAdaptor server = (RMIAdaptor) new InitialContext().lookup(connectorName);
| ObjectName monitorName = new ObjectName("Monitor:name=JBossMonitor");
| Object[] params = {};
| String[] signature = {};
| String history = (String) server.invoke(monitorName, "history", params, signature);
| System.out.println("Invoked JBossMonitor.history:");
| System.out.println(history);

The portlet container test suite has been rebuild to use the latest changes I brought to Cargo. It allows to run the portlet testsuite against Tomcat 6.0 and JBoss 4.2.
It requires 2 env variables to be set before execution JBOSS_4_2_HOME and TOMCAT_6_0_HOME . Those should be blank installations of JBoss 4.2 and Tomcat 6.0.
For Tomcat I used the latest 6.0 version, for JBoss I have only tested JBoss-4.2.0.GA.
We should now get QA run the nightly test suite against those 2 servers.

Upon startup jbosscache prints out the $id:$ info of Version.java
| 15:16:25,218 INFO [PojoCacheImpl] PojoCache version: JBossCache 'Habanero' 2.0.0.GA[ $Id: Version.java,v 1.35 2007/08/01 16:52:13 msurtani Exp $]

Why not using a more compact timestamp format, like:
| 15:14:49,500 INFO [ServerImpl] Release ID: JBoss [Morpheus] 5.0.0.Beta3 (build: SVNTag=JBoss_5_0_0_Beta3 date=200709151324)
