I've completed the part that I've detailed here and will upload it momentarily.
My next task is to make it possible to have custom fields. It looks like with the present
jsf version this may not really be a problem, the previous version was quite limited.
however I'll be verifying this. This won't be the whole kit and kaboodle with
dynamic pages as this is beyond the scope/budget but at least gives people in the 2.6
timeframe the ability to turn on profile creation at registration based on a simple
configuration variable. They may then need to add their own fields.

Presently the user has the ability to register, then after logging in they create a
profile. At many places that portal will be used registration and initial profile
creation are the same.
The JSF screens should be reworked to allow the profile fields to appear at registration
per a setting. The user module/registration pieces would need to allow profile creation
by a not yet logged in user when in the registration process.
