Use of helper class to simulate "accumulate"

Hello all, I have been told that you could implement a helper class to simulate "accumulate" command in drools. Could you please ealborate on how to do this? Some code snippet to illustrate this would be very much appreciated. My problem is as follows.I have two types of facts - Tree and Branch. Each Branch object has a reference to the Tree object it belongs to. I want to write a rule: The number of branches in a tree must not exceed 100. I guess this would be easy to write with "accumulate" command, which is not yet available in 3.0.x. Thanks Jeevan

[Column(f1=='v1', f2=='v2')] vs [Column(f1=='v1') Column(f2== 'v2')]

Hi, I wonder what is the difference (performance-wise, etc) between these two constructs: Column(f1=='v1', f2=='v2') And Column(f1=='v1') Column(f2=='v2') ? Both of them should select the same 'Column' facts (where Column.f1=='v1' && Column.f2='v2'), correct? Is one construct more preferable then another one? Does JBossRules hash only the evaluation result of the 'full column' OR individual field constraints as well? From what I understand, only the full 'Column' is defined as an (alpha?) node while individual constraints within the node can not be further optimized, correct? Meaning, if I have another condition somewhere like this: Column(f1=='v1', f2=='ANOTHER_VAL') [f1=='v1'] constraint would have to be reevaluated again, while if I define constraints through two 'separate' columns and the new constraint as Column(f1=='v1) Column(f2=='ANOTHER_VAL') only the new constraint would have to be reevaluated. Problem binding to property "attributes"

Hi, I have a simple class:- public class Simple { private Attributes attributes; public Attributes getAttributes() { return this.attributes; } } And a simple rule:- rule "Simple" when $s : Simple( $a : attributes ) then System.out.println("Simple!"); End I receive an "Unexpected token $a" error in the Eclipse plug-in. Thinking it might just be related to the plug-in I naively run the code and receive a org.drools.rule.InvalidRulePackage error. If I change the property name to something else like this:- public class Simple { private Attributes attributes; public Attributes getSmurf() { return this.attributes; } } rule "Simple" when $s : Simple( $a : smurf ) then System.out.println("Simple!"); End Everything is fine. Is this a known issue? Using variable in a drl file

Hi everyone, Can anyone guide me on how to declare a variable (e.g: a double variable) and use it throughout the drl file from top to bottom. almost similar to the function like semaphore. Thanks. decision table - access to params $1, $2, ... as an 'array' + esc aping ',' in field values?

Hi, I wonder if it's possible to access parameters in the decision table template as an array? In other words, instead of addressing individual parameters through numbered notation (field1 > $1, field2 > $2) is it possible to do something like this ( HelperClass.checkAllMyFields($parameters) ), where 'checkAllMyFields' method accepts an array of objects/strings? Another slightly related question is whether it is possible to use 'comma' as a character in the field value? In other words, if I have a string "abcd,efg" and I want it to be interpreted as a single parameter, how do I escape ',' character? Thanks. Vlad

Creating a long literal

Is there a way to create a long literal in a rule condition? Typing 30L results in a syntax error because of the L at the end. The error occurs even if I put this literal in eval. --Aziz

predicate vs return value expression - what's the difference?

Hi, I'm reading through DROOLS manual and can't understand the difference / explanations regarding predicate expression (Figure 3.17) and return value expression (Figure 3.18). The manual gives two examples of the same thing done two different ways: Predicate expression: Person( girlAge : age, sex = "F" ) Person( boyAge : age -> ( girlAge.intValue() == boyAge.intValue() + 2 ), sex = 'M' ) Return value expression: Person( girlAge : age, sex == "F" ) Person( age == ( new Integer(girlAge.intValue() + 2) ), sex == 'M' ) While the 'return value' expression is more or less clear, I can't understand the semantics of 'predicate' ('->') operator. Can anyone decode this? What's the difference between the two? When each of the ways should be used and why? Thanks! Vlad

Anstis, We don't have ruleflow, but we do have AgendaGroups which can provide a form of rule flow, just that its actually stack based. I'm working on a more general ruleflow idea at the moment, it may make it into the end of Q1 release, but its not defnite yet. Normally you cache the rulebase in a singleton and then just creating working memory instances as and when you need to - creating a working memory is light. The guided gui builder is for 3.2, it's web only based on GWT, I believe that it will also do DSLs (Mic will have to confirm that).
