When using the new 'from' feature, does Drools handle null values correctly? For example, let's say I have a rule like this: rule check when Integer() from helper.getId(); then ... end I tried returning null from getId(), but it caused Drools to throw an exception. So what I'm currently doing is have getId() return a collection, which may be empty. In this case Drools handles it without problem. Is there a better way to do this? I just don't want to wrap everything in a collection. thanks. sam

DSL in 3.1.0 m1

Hi, I tried to run TroubleTicketExampleWithDSL example in 3.1.0M1 but it displayed following error: org.drools.rule.InvalidRulePackage: unknown:2:0 required (...)+ loop (decision=2) did not match anything; token=[@8,29:36='expander',<31>,2:0] at org.drools.rule.Package.checkValidity(Package.java:367) at org.drools.common.AbstractRuleBase.addPackage (AbstractRuleBase.java:244) at com.sample.TroubleTicketExampleWithDSL.main (TroubleTicketExampleWithDSL.java:25) Exception in thread "main" The same example is ok in 3.0.5. $drools variable not available under 3.1M?

Hi, I was trying to access '$drools' variable from the RHS of the rule, but keep on getting compilation errors: $drools can't be resolved. The docs for 3.0.5 mention that 'drools' variable is made available to the user from the RHS of the rule... I wonder if it's a bug or I'm doing smth wrong? Here is an excerpt from the rule: Rule "xxx" When .... then System.out.println($drools); end For other purposed I have these list of imports in the header: import org.drools.spi.KnowledgeHelper; import org.drools.base.DefaultKnowledgeHelper; import org.drools.spi.Tuple; import org.drools.rule.Rule; Thanks, Vlad

Avoid eval, predicate and return value unless you really need them. Keep your consequences short and avoid flow logic in them, i.e. 'if'/'switch ' statements. Ok, found the descriptions - for anyone interested, you need to switch into 'JBoss Rules' prospective and open 'Properties' tab. This way whenever you select a node, information about the node would be displayed there (Properties tab won't get activated automatically). Mark, any general hints on correlations between diagram 'look' & performance implications? Question on rule evaluation...

Syntax query

I am using drools 3.0.5 I have a function : <function return-type="JobRequestOptions" name="getJob"> <parameter identifier="msg" type="Message" /> <body> JobRequestOptions jro=new JobRequestOptions(); System.out.println("hello world"); return jro; </body> </function> The following syntax <eval>getJob(m).hasOption(null)==false</eval> gives the following error : org.drools.rule.InvalidRulePackage: Rule Compilation error The method getJob(Message) is undefined for the type Rule_Loop_Test_0 However when I change the <eval> tag to the following : <eval>( getJob(m) ).hasOption(null)==false</eval> IT WORKS FINE (Here I have put the function in brackets with spaces in between.It gives me an error if I dont put spaces in between) Could someone explain whether it is a bug or a syntax definition -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Syntax-query-tf3387628.html#a9429717 Sent from the drools - user mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Trouble adding things to a list

Hi all. I've got some rules that are supposed to add documents to a list that is then returned to the caller. Each rule sets some properties on a document and then adds it to the list. The correct number of objects are being added to the list, but each object has the attributes that were set in the first matching rule. It seems as if the properties on the object can be set only once and cannot be changed by subsequest rules. Here's the comlete DRL: package com.mycompany.rules.documentlist; #generated from Decision Table import com.mycompany.rules.documentlist.*; #From row number: 11 rule "DocumentList_11" when document : DocumentAttributes() docList : DocumentList() then document.setAllowActivityCompletion(false); document.setName("Document 1"); document.setTypeID(100); document.setHelpFile("Help File"); docList.addDocuments(document); end #From row number: 12 rule "DocumentList_12" when document : DocumentAttributes() docList : DocumentList() then document.setDisplayDocument(true); document.setName("Document 2"); document.setTypeID(101); document.setHelpFile("Help File"); docList.addDocuments(document); end As you can see, the DRL was generated from a decision table, but I don't think that has anything to do with the behavior I'm seeing. The document bound variable is set correctly and added to the list in the first rule, but the second rule adds the same document as was added in the first rule. Any suggestions as to what is going on here would be much appreciated. Is it even possible to get there from here? I tried setting Sequential=true on the decision table, but that does not help.
