Hi, w're evaluating Drools Flow 5 as a process engine for bigger projects at Volkswagen in a world wide szenario. There is one crucial question about process persistence. Process instances are currently saved binary (@LOB) via ObjectOutputStream and ByteArrayOutputStream through JPA. May be this is efficient for persisting, however, it disables ordinary database access. E.g. if you use process variables and need to find a certain process instance with some process variable values we'd need to unwrap each process for a detailed access. For >100000 processes in the database this might be too slow as Java needs to load all instances for access. We could save process data redundantly via ordinary JPA queries but this could be dangeous. It would be a rewrite of process persistence. Is there a plan to extend the persistence strategy to allow ordinary database access via JPA (no LOBs)? In our current szenario we would have to wrap orders into a process that is persisted. Of course we'd need to search for older input during the process directly in the database. Wolfgang - Thanks for your reply. As I said in the original subject line -- bizarre bug or user error? Well, it turns out to have been user error -- There was another rule in the rulebase that was altering values on the PolicySet objects, but failing to update() them. This caused the Rule Engine to evaluate using old matches and produced wrong results. If you did file a JIRA, you can probably cancel it. -- <red faced> -- Sorry for the confusion. ConsequenceInvokers building up in heap

I am currently using drools in a project and I am finding that my heap is accumulating (and seemingly not releasing) several ConsequenceInvoker classes. I have done a search on possible causes but have not found much regarding this issue. Below is an excerpt of the code that runs the rules engine. I have checked that the code deregisters the execution set and closes the rulesession, is there anything else that it needs to do to release resources? Rule Count and Consequence Sets

Hi, I have many rules. These rules may or may not belong to the same set. However, based on their name they can be grouped. Say all rules starting with "Traffic_Rule", "Criminal_Rule" etc. Q1. I want to check after assertion of a fact (A.) how many and (B.) which all rules executed for "Traffic_Rule" and the result will fire another rule. (So I want all this in the rules files only) - So in a way I want to collect the consequences and based on the result of that consequence set fire more rules. Q2. evals() are expensive. I dont think we can assign the output of an eval in the condition to a variable; so how do I re-use an eval in a condition and then in the consequence? (To avoid calling the function multiple times) regards, Arjun

Bug in Guvnor?

Hi. I didn't see this in Jira, and it is very reproducible for me. I am using 5.0CR1, and trying to work completely in Guvnor. I create a simple Model, add a Business Rule and a Test Scenario, and all works fine. As soon as I add a function, the Test Scenarios no longer work. If I delete the function, the Test Scenario starts working again. Here is a simple sample. package TestPkg declare TestFact name: String age: Integer end function int testFunc() { return 2; } rule "TestRule" dialect "mvel" when $testFact : TestFact( name == "Bill" ) then $testFact.setAge( 3 ); end I'm not even calling the function - just its presence causes Test Scenarios to fail. Drools Flow persistance

Hello, I been searching through all the documentation I could find about how to persist a flow. In the whats-new-in-drools-5-video-and-q session I found the following: ---------------------------- Q: For long-running processes involving human tasks, how is the state of the process/flow persisted? A: Various approaches available - database via hibernate for instance, file system, all intended for high performance. Working Memories are now transactional and persistable (JPA is also an option). ---------------------------- Is there any examples available somewhere which describes how to persist to the file system (for a simple start)? Rule package/rule name/ruleflow-group question

Hi, I am new to Drools. I am not sure how rules should be organized using package. My questions are: 1) Should rule name/ruleflow-group name be unique within the same package or globally? 2) Can multiple packages be loaded into workingmemory at the same time? if this true, then I have following quesitons: 2.1 How to load multiple packages? 2.2 How the rules have the same name but belong to different packages, are differieniated and fired? HumanTask Content parameter

Is it planned to add support for more than the StringDataType to HumanTasks? I noticed that the WSHumanTaskHandler takes whatever content and serializes it to a byte[], but the HumanTaskNode sets a parameter definition of StringType. I noticed one of the sample apps with a work item (FileFinder.rf?) that would take arbitrary content. Is there a best practice here? I could see for portability setting the content as an XML or JSON string which would be fine, but just wondered if other use cases were possible. Thanks, Garrett
