For anyone looking for a good and complex example on how to write rules properly, please look at Conways Game of Life in drools-examples, for extra bonus points compare it to the old version in M1. You'll see nearly all the logic is moved from java to the drl and we have removed the need for nested objects by using objects relaitionally, which also allows us to exploit cross products to drive the application. How to read XML using XMLPackageReader-Drools-compiler.5.2.1.final?

Hi, I am using Drools-compiler.5.2.1.final. I am trying to convert an drl to xml and vice versa using DrlParser, DrlDumper, XMLPackageReader and XML Dumper. Drl to XML conversion works fine but XML to Drl throws NPE. I have placed the XML file under a folder called sample. NPE is thrown at line 5.. Also attached is the exception. Please suggest. TIA. Drools Planner: Vehicle routing problems

Hi, as discussed the other day with Ge0ffrey on IRC, I've been trying to get some vehicle routing done using the new TSP / chaining functionality in drools planner. I've written an example, but am having problems with the chaining of jobs together. After pulling my hair out, I've put together an example into my fork of planner, showing a simplified example of how I am approaching it, and the problem that can be replicated. https://github.com/davidglassborow/drools-planner/tree/vehicle_routing It is a very simple console app along the same lines as the hello world example for NQueens. On running it will print out the chains, and you will see the some Jobs appear more than once in the same list. On the planning variable it seems to be get assigned in front of itself, I've put some notes in the source, and checked that the same doesn't occur in your TSP example. I'm not sure if its a bug in the way I've setup things, or whether its an issue in the chain move code. Greatly appreciated if anybody in the know gets a chance to have a look. Spring, KnowledgeAgent, and Guvnor

I'm having a problem connecting my KnowledgeAgent to a package in Guvnor. I'm using Spring to instantiate the KnowledgeAgent. The agent initializes perfectly well when I point to a local change-set that in-turn points to a local rule. However, even though I have the same rule in a package in Guvnor, the KnowledgeAgent fails with the following exception when I point to the package's change-set in Guvnor: The code at KnowledgeBaseImpl.java:148 is (using 5.3.0.Final): Here is the simple rule in the Guvnor as returned by the URL for the package source URL: Here is the local change-set definition. The line that is commented is the failing resource, whereas the local file resource works fine: Guvnor is residing on a Tomcat server. I could not find anything related to this on the forum. Starting resource change scanner and notifier in drools-server.

Hi, I would like to ask for help with setting up drools-server with Guvnor. I am using version 5.1.1 of both. I am trying to set up an instance of drools-server in Tomcat that periodically loads new updates of packages published in Guvnor (both drools-server and Guvnor run in the same instance of Tomcat). The problem is that when a new package built and published in Guvnor, drools-server does not detect this and update itself. The effect is the same as if a KnowledgeAgent were used locally and ResourceFactory.getResourceChangeNotifierService().start(); ResourceFactory.getResourceChangeScannerService().start(); were not called. This leads me to the assumption that drools-server does not start these services by default. My question is then can/how do I configure drools-server to start these services such that it will update new changes from Guvnor automatically? named query TasksAssignedAsPotentialOwner doesn't work with MySql db

Hi, When I add a task (having two potential owners) by calling the method addTask followed by calling the method getTasksAssignedAsPotentialOwner of org.jbpm.task.service.TaskClient I expect to receive a list of TaskSummaries containing at least the previously added task. But I actually get an empty list! Here is my setup and possible solution: I am using the trunk version of ./jbpm-human-task/src/main/resources/META-INF/orm.xml and a MYSQL database. When calling addTask the Task table will be populated with a NULL actualOwner_id. The named query TasksAssignedAsPotentialOwner "select new org.jbpm.task.query.TaskSummary(...t.taskData.actualOwner...) from ... left join t.taskData.actualOwner ..." of orm.xml generates SQL consisting of an inner join "inner join OrganizationalEntity user7_ on task0_.actualOwner_id=user7_.id" which doesn't take the NULL actualOwner_id correctly into account. When I replace the named query TasksAssignedAsPotentialOwner with "select new org.jbpm.task.query.TaskSummary(...actualOwner...) from ...left join t.taskData.actualOwner as actualOwner ...", then the generated SQL consists of an "left outer join OrganizationalEntity user2_ on task0_.actualOwner_id=user2_.id" which takes the NULL actualOwner_id correctly into account. So I get a List of TaskSummaries containing the added task. Is this a correct fix? I give up, where is drools:execution-node defined??

I see <drools:execution-node id="node1"/> in the drools server knowledge-services.xml and throughout the documentation. But, my app can't compile because that is undefined. I looked in drools-spring.xsd and spring-beans.xsd (the two namespaces defined in that file), but no joy. Am I just blind?? Anyone know where it is defined? Does drools generate document from drl files?

I want to add some comments on drl files and get a document from that. I know that guvnor can do this for me but it simply copy all the drl file content into a pdf file. What I want is that we can write some comments in a specified format provided by drools and generate a document like, html. Error Inserting events into drools fusion stream

Hi All, I'm trying to implement drools fusion into my app. The scenario of my app is as follows: - Facts will be received continuosly. - On receving fact I'm generating a new event and adding it into a new working memory entry point stream. Also I'm adding facts into session coz I'll be updating them. - I need to apply rules on continuous stream of events. - I've not used any camel + spring or pipeline. Are these mandatory to use? For 1st fact everything works fine but when I receive 2nd fact I'm getting Now when I'm trying to get entry point on receive of 2nd alarm I'm getting org.drools.RuntimeDroolsException: Unexpected exception executing action org.drools.reteoo.PropagationQueuingNode$PropagateAction@9ff411 Caused by: java.util.concurrent.RejectedExecutionException. On debug I found that the above exception is coming when I'm calling session.getWorkingMemoryEntryPoint("MyStream"); Can anyone please help me that how should I insert facts and events into working memory? I'd invested ample amount of time searching for this but I'm empty handed. Guys please help this is very urgent for me. Where is org.drools.server package for camel server?

I downloaded and deployed the Drools 5.4 drools integration server ("drools-camel-server-5.4.0.Final.war") trying to run the test. However, there is a class referenced in test.jsp "org.drools.server.CamelServerApp" which I cannot find (actually, I found the source code for CR1 for that class in grepcode http://grepcode.com/file/repo1.maven.org/maven2/org.drools/drools-camel-s...) . Also, I can not even find the package org.drools.server. Can someone tell me anything about this class/package? Where is it and is it just for the test? Date equal comparison fails - don't understand why

Hi I am comparing SimpleAccount( dateAccountOpened == "5-Feb-2011") where dateAccountOpened is "Sat Feb 05 00:00:00 GMT+02:00 2011" (if you call toString()). The equal comparator fails (==) but the greater than comparator passes (>) which I don't understand. Drools server and knowledge agent functionality

Hello everybody: I am taking a look at Drools Integration documentation to understand how Drools server works and how can be used, and have a doubt concerning, let's say... 'KnowledgeAgent capabilities'. Does Drools server support on the fly rule updating as when using KnowledgeAgent to create KnowledgeBase objects? Question about custom accumulation functions

Hi, While testing my custom accumulation function I noticed an unexpected behavior (th'ats of course a personal point of view). It seems that Drools 5.1 calls accumulate(...) and getResult(...) as many times as the number of accumulated facts (accumulate, getResult, accumulate, getResult, etc...). Hi All, i created a simple Fact (person) and rule (like age < 20) in Guvnor . and i created a simple "rule test scenarios" , when i submit "Run Scenario" button in "rule test scenarios" it is showing result 100% . So i have thousands of rules & for each rule i have a "rule test case" . So i want to run the test scenarios from outside of the Guvnor (like eclipse)to execute all at once.. Can anybody help me.. Guvnor - Loading enums programatically using rule metadata

The Guvnor manual specifies how to load enum data programtically but it seems like only other fields on the same Fact can be used to filter the values that can show up in the drop-down fields, as shown below: 'Fact.field[dependentField1, dependentField2]' : '(new com.yourco.DataHelper()).getListOfAges("@{dependentField1}", "@{dependentField2}")' Is it possible to somehow use other rule attributes, like package name or rule metadata to filter the list? how to debug rules in JBoss AS?

Hello, I know one can debug rules (put breakpoints in .drl and ruleflow files) when running/debugging an application as a Drools Application. However, I would like to debug rules when my application is running in JBoss AS - just like we do a normal debugging of a Remote application running in a different JVM ,by enabling the JDWP on the server (-Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8787,server=y,suspend=n) and then connecting to the specified port. Basically, I would like to be able to debug both my Java classes and rules together. Is it possible? thanks, Marina

Fire Rule in Stateless Knowledge Session

Hi, I am new in Drools. I am using Drools version 5.1.0 My requirement is kind of request response, where I have to perform some checks for the request and respond the result. Hence, I decided to go with stateless knowledge session. I have prepared .DRL file and it contains set of rules. When some request receives I have to identify the rule(s) belongs to that request and then fire the rule(s). I am not able to figure out how to categories the rules request wise in DRL file? Also, how to fire only those rules which belongs to the category. For example, there are three kinds of requests Rq1, Rq2 and Rq3. There are rules in DRL file: R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5. R1, R2 belongs to Rq1, R3 belongs to Rq2 and R4, R5 belongs to Rq3. When some request receives only its belonging rules should be fired. For example, on receiving of Rq2 only R3 should be fired. Guvnor: Accessing Bound Variable in "Then" Statement

Hello. I started with a search and didn't find an answer. I apologize if my search-fu was lacking today. I'm a non-developer tasked with rules creation and testing using guvnor. I have found some scenarios where I can bind a variable to either the whole input model or a fact in the input model and then later access those in the output model by selecting "Bound Variable" from the popup box in the Then statement. In other scenarios, "Bound Variable" is not an option (only Literal or Formula). What must I do to be able to access the bound variables from the When statement(s) in the Then statement(s)? "Rule-Id" for a Drools Rule

All: We are using Drools to detect specific events/conditions in our system. In the 'then' condition of Drools rule, we would like to persist the "Rule Id" of the rule that created the specific event/condition This is because all our reporting is based on "rules" as filters, where users can look at exceptions by specific rules. Is there a suggestion or sample as how can the "Rule Id" be persisted or indicated in the then condition that is immutable or can be long-lived. The current approach of using Rule Name itself as the ID is brittle as this can be changed and suddenly all reports would break. If we assign ID's to rules, where do we keep the mapping of RULE ID to Rules. If we store rules in GUVRNOR is there a way we can get Rule Id's for Rules? Multiple DSL files with Eclipse IDE

I would like to add more then one DSL file to a DSLR file. I understand that semantically the knowledge base will allow this but is there away to allow eclipse the ability to view the DRL when multiple DSLs are being used? I found JBRULES-1615 but I am not sure if this was actually resolved or just closed. Compiled rules differ KnowledgeAgent vs ResourceChangeScanner

Version 5.2.0.Final. I have a DRL file that is loaded into my server using a change set and Spring configuration. The file loads without error, and I am able to read the compiled package and print the rule names to confirm they did load; however, only one of the rules fires. Then I copy (hot-deploy) the same DRL file to its server-side directory, and the Resource change Scanner picks it up and reloads it. After reload, all the expected rules execute. My guess is that the Spring/KnowledgeAgent compilation is different than the one done via the resource change scanner. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Any suggestions for further trouble shooting? Hello fellow Droolers, A while ago I asked why the <drools:batch> element seemed to work differently in the case of a StatelessKnowledgeSession and a StatefulKnowedgeSession (see below). I just wanted to update those interested with the answer and ask some further questions, probably aimed at any developers who happen to be reading. I checked out the 5.1.1.34858 tag and had a look at how the Spring integration works. I found that the reason that the global is not set in the case of a StatelessKnowledgeSession is because the <spring:batch> element is effectively ignored in the StatelessKnowledgeSessionBeanFactory, which lacks the following code present in the StatefulKnowledgeSessionBeanFactory (in the internalAfterPropertiesSet() method): if ( getBatch() != null && !getBatch().isEmpty()) { for ( Command<?> cmd : getBatch() ) { ksession.execute( cmd ); } } So, either by accident or design the <spring:batch> element has no effect when using a StatelessKnowledgeSession (but is perfectly allowable in the XSD/Spring namespace). So my questions are: 1) Is this the intended behaviour or a bug? On reflection, I am now not sure the idea of a "batch/script" makes sense for a StatelessKnowledgeSession since execute() is a one-shot method and any globals set this way would not be available to later executions, which is what I was looking for. 2) If so, should the XSD be changed to disallow the batch element within a stateless session (difficult, given that this is determined via the "type" attribute) or should the documentation simply warn people that the <spring:batch> element doesn't do anything if you set the type attribute to stateless (somewhat confusing, I suppose) 3) If not, should the code above be added to the StatelessKnowledgeSessionBeanFactory.internalAfterPropertiesSet() method? 4) Should there be another way to declare a global that isn't through the batch element (one that would cause globals to be set via the setGlobal(String, Object) method rather than using the SetGlobalCommand via the execute() method. I am happy to try and contribute something along these lines if I can get some guidance as to what was actually intended. Hope this helps and thanks again for Drools. Hello, I have been using Drools 5.3.0.FINAL until now. I am upgrading my running system with 5.4.0.FINAL. The bundles are all runing. I got some error messages and tried to reduce the problem and created a simple bundle. Change Scanner does not start

Dear All, I have an application that use Guvnor 5.4.0 final as the rules repository and a DroolsServer 5.4.0 final (with Spring Camel) to provide rule engine via a Rest Webservices, all of those apps Running in a JBossAS 7.1. All of the service are working perfectly, except the resource-change-scanner that is configured in the knowledge-services.xml [1] as it's described in the documentation. When Drools-Server are deployed the Change Scanner does not start (I'm monitoring the change scanner via Wireshark analyzing the communication between DroolServer and Guvnor), I've created an small JSP file [2] that invoke the ChangeScanner start method, when i run the JSP the Change Scanner start to work (i can see the http requests from Drools Server do Guvnor to see if the knowledge base had changed), but after Change Scanner started working the rules are not triggered anymore. So without Change Scanner I've all of the knowledge service running properly, but the App is unable to detect rules changes, when I explicitly (via JSP) start the Change Scanner all of the knowledge service stopped working. Change Scanner starts automatically? Does anybody has some idea to help me? Drools: Using Declared Types in Decision Tables

Hi, I am trying to use a declared type in a decision table but get an "Unable to resolve ObjectType" message. The declared type is in a file types.drl, I have a spreadsheet test.xls that has a Ruleset with an import line for the declared type. Is it possible to reference a declared type from a decision table? Is it possible to declare a type in a decision table? Thanks David

Rules with variable timers

multiple rule package files in change-set.xml

Hi there, Please assist. I have added2 package to my change-set.xml, they are "resources uk.co.example.mapping.policy.pkg" and "uk.co.example.policy.validation.pkg", the rules in "uk.co.example.mapping.policy.pkg" infer facts required by "uk.co.example.policy.validation.pkg". When all the rules are in one package, then the rule fires as expected. Building our own UI for Drools

Drools Guvnor API information?

Hi, I am looking at using Guvnor for our project where users would be creating rules using our UI. For this i need to add / modify rule or any asset for that matter using an api. Unfortunately, i could not find enough documentation to suggest the best way to use the REST api, which I guess is provided by Guvnor. Could someone let me know the location of where i can get some information for this api. I also see that the issue GUVNOR-1080 (https://issues.jboss.org/browse/GUVNOR-1080) is marked resolved so the api should exist right? or that we cannot access it remotely until we have the Atom Pub Interface done? Debug rule functions ?

Hello, could some give me some tips for debugging *functions* in .drl ? by now I'm not able to debug *inside the functions* which are called by the rule sequence. I follow the http://docs.jboss.org/tools/3.0.0.GA/en/drools_tools_ref_guide/html_singl... JBoss Drools Tools Reference Guide but what is show there is how to debug a very simple *rule sequence*. I have no problem with that - following the guide everything is ok. BUT There is nothing shown about a more complex case when there are functions (java-like) in the .drl file and the rule calls one or more of these functions. And one function calls another etc. (just like in normal programming) When a put a breakpoint inside functions I cannot debug them. I can only debug the *rule* ("then" section) Any help would be appreciated? Unable to find implementation for BusinessRuleProvider

Hi, I've been experimenting with the Guided Rule Editor plug-in in Eclipse. I've built a Drools Project using the default Hello World sample application. I've created a new "Guided Rule" in my project called "GuidedRule.brl" and get the associated "drools.package" with it. Changset Authentication through code

Hi, We are trying to apply authentication on an URL ChangeSet Resource and it looks that doesn't work. However authentication works if we specify in a local change set xml file. We need to connect to guvnor to get the change set via authentication instead of using a local change set XML file. Persistence in fireUntilHalt() loop

Hi, We're running an application that uses Drools + JBPM 5 + Drools integration our set-up can be seen as: Some rule fires and creates a JBPM process ( a fact gets inserted into drools using "kcontext.getKnowledgeRuntime().startProcess("testProcess")" ). We have a problem with the persistence of this processes. Persistence is implemented with JPA and JTA. Our application runs with fireUntilHalt() and when a process is launched from the consequence of any of the rules the persistence of the process fails. If the application runs with fireAllRules(), the persistence works like a charm. System problems

I am using Drools 5.4.0, guvnor 5.3.0 and default database. I imported the rules with XML file (550 KB) in Guvnor. After I can check, validate and test (with run analysis button) the rules without problems. Everything works fine. After when I import ed other rules XML file (30,000 KB), I realized that the system becomes too slow and obviously I can no longer veifier, validate or test my rules. Continuous Planning values for task planning

Hi, I am new to Drools and Drools Planner, so apologies if I am asking anything obvious. My objective is to implement a simple (for now) planner which schedules tasks according to 2 main criteria: - Their duration (in seconds) - Their dependencies on other tasks (e.g. Hard Constraint that Task B has to start between 180 and 200 seconds after Task A finishes). Since there are gaps between dependent tasks as part of the hard constraints other tasks can be fitted in between dependent tasks. So the Solver needs to find the optimal start time for each task that satisfies the hard constraints, and in the shortest total timeline possible to complete all tasks (soft constraint). The main problem I am finding is that this start time, which is essentially the planning variable is a continuous variable. Chapter 4 of the Drools documentation mentions very briefly (Section 4.3.4.1) that planning variables can be continuous, but there does not seem to be any more details about how to achieve this. Even if the planning variable was discrete (say bins of 5 second intervals), there is no upper bound as such. How is it best to handle such planning variables in Drools Planner? thanks, josef

Drools Guvnor 5.2 Issue on Websphere AS 7

Hi Drools gurus, I am back again. As most of you know that i had many 'weld' related issues for deploying Drools Guvnor 5.4 in Webspere 7. After all my trails, i have decided to go for Guvnor 5.2 (which doesn't have weld+seam dependancies) deployment on Websphere As7. This time, I was able to deploy Guvnor 5.2.0 Final on Websphere AS7 successfully without any errors. I have changed the repository to my own file path. When i launch the guvnor for the first it had asked me to load the sample packages, i have chosen YES. It was succeffully loaded all sample packages into my given file path. That's it, after the loading, my browser window was completely blank except "Drools" logo on top left and guest[signout] on top right. Any Idea what was wrong with my setup. NPE loading Drools 5.4.0.Beta1 using drools-spring

I am trying to load up 5.4.0.Beta1. I'm using Spring configuration xml that works fine in 5.2.0.Final. Hi, I have just started trying out Drools and having an issue trying to run the sample applications under Eclipse Helios with Groovy installed. Apply role to whole class hierarchy

Hi all, we are processing events through a Fusion rule base. To be recognized as such, model classes must be declared as @role(event). We are using a rather extensive hierarchy of events, all derived from a single abstract class. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be possible to declare just this base class as an event and have the 'event' role for the others derived from that. Is there a way around having to declare each and every single event class separately? I get the error: 'Syntax error, static imports are only available if source level is 5.0' when I compile my *.drl files, when I´m switching from jdk 1.6 -> jdk 1.7 Is jdk 1.7 not supported with drools 5.4 - or what I´m doing wrong ? fire a rule only once (for the time being)

It seems like there are many similar problems but I have not been able to find anything that addresses my issue exactly. I have a stock trading application, and I want to check if the price is out of a range (high,low) if the price goes below low, the problem is the rule keeps firing if the price keeps going lower, this creates too much noise and overhead. I thought maybe the no-loop and duration attributes would help but they didnt. I know I could check not(Fired()) and use insert fired but I believe that spans the entire session which I do not want either. How to iterate over a given rule multiple times

Hi All, I have a specific requirement where in, i have my rules file as follows rule "one" when //some condition then //fire a particular query & retrieve the count of records for a filter condition //Then populate it to some fact property using modify() end rule "two" when //check if the count of records is, say 100 after, the above modify statement then //any further action end Now the problem is, I want to execute rule "one" again and again until rule "two" is satisfied. Two probable solutions I can think of is: - 1. Put some condition in rule "one", so that rule"one" is true until rule "two" condition is satisfied. But that has a problem, rule"one" will still fire even if rule "two" gets satisfied. 2. Other is, have some kind of third rule that will call rule "one", when rule"two" is not satisfied. Collections versus Relational Approach in Fact Model

I'm learning Java and Drools at the same time; please be gentle if my question is misdirected. I'm working on creating my first nontrivial fact model. A policy can have multiple vehicles; a vehicle can have multiple coverages. My data will come into the rules engine via an XML file, and be output to XML after all rules are fired. I'm looking for best practices. I've seen it suggested to use a relational approach to my object graph. A policy will have policyID 12345; its vehicles will have a policyID field, and each will have a different vehicleNumber (e.g. 1, 2 and 3). A coverage will have policyID (12345) and vehicleNumber(1), and a coverage identifier of its own. That seems simple, sleek and elegant. I hope to use it to write rules. But I wonder if it will be resource-intensive when I get to outputting the XML. I'm imagining having to write the policy node, then search all vehicles for the 3 that are related to this policy, then search through all coverages for the ones corresponding to each vehicle, etc. Is it better to include some sort of collection? (Policy 12345 might include a collection of vehicles, each of which would include a collection of coverages.) If so, what kind of collection: an implementation of set? list? map? More specifically, are there drawbacks or advantages to one approach or another? I'm very thankful for any guidance you'd like to offer. Counting events / fact condition not evalauted with accumulate

Dear contributors, this simple rule should trigger only when a critical amount of particular events was detected, though it seems to accept any event of this type, disregarding the fact condition (e.g. there is no single event that matches "target == Long.MAX_VALUE"). You can create a rule template in any text editor you like and, AFAIK, it can have any extension you prefer. Convert it to an inputstream and use it in the code as is documented. [Planner][DRL] Changable problem facts?

Hello! I am working on task scheduling system. My system works fine, but I want to make it faster. For my current problem we can assume that my domain consists of: * Worker (int id, List<TimePeriod> workingHours) * TaskAssignment (int id, List<TimePeriod> possibleExecutionTime, Duration leadTime, Worker worker) I am trying to assing each Task Assignment to 1 worker. It's obvious. All I need to do is to make my rules computing faster. For example I have a rule: rule "ASSIGN_OUT_OF_WORKING_TIME" when $w : Worker($id : id != 0, $wh : workingHours) $ta : TaskAssignment(worker != null, worker.id == $id) not TimePeriod( isBetweenInclusive($ta.getTimeSlot()), isBetweenInclusive($ta.getEndTimeSlot()) ) from $wh then insertLogical(new IntConstraintOccurrence("ASSIGN_OUT_OF_WORKING_TIME", ConstraintType.NEGATIVE_HARD, 100, $w )); end This rule checks if every TaskAssignment assigned to a Worker lies in the worker's working hours. The problem is that score calculator is trying to pair given Worker with every TaskAssignment. So I have to make set of TaskAssignment as small as possible. I can acquire that by storing in a Worker any kind of Set including all assigned TaskAssignments. Guvnor reports Invalid Gateway direction for Parallel Gateway.

A business process with a parallel path (see attached diagram) created through the Eclipse plug-in and imported later to Guvnor or just created from scratch inside Guvnor, doesn’t pass the Guvnor’s Validate Process. Guvnor reports: “Invalid Gateway direction for Parallel Gateway. It should be ‘Converging or Diverging”. How can I specify it should be a converging gateway? Guvnor Integration with Eclipse Issue !!

KnowledgeAgent exception while trying to deserialize KnowledgeDefinitionsPackage After going through all the available post, nothing proved to be of any help !! Then i thought might be changing the "technical assest" directly from guvnor is a bad idea... So, i created a new package named "Individual_New", uploaded the new POJO model and uploaded just one rule from ECLIPSE(just to check if my kbase builds or not).. Drools Server does not process requests while updating package

Dear Everybody, I´m using DroolServer 5.4 final with Guvnor 5.4 final runing in a JBoss AS 7.1, and i detected when the rules package are updated in Guvnor and DroolsServer detects this changes via ChangeScanner agent, it start to download the new package but stop to process requests while is updating. This is a problem to my solution the update process takes about 1 minute due the rules volume. Does anybody knows if I have some option to make this update process asynchronously? Guvnor 5.4.0.Final and JBoss AS 7.1.1.Final

Hi, There have been a few messages recently suggesting there are problems running Guvnor 5.4.0.Final on JBoss AS 7.1.1.Final. I had a check and this is what I found:- 1) Downloaded guvnor-5.4.0-Final.zip from Drools website 2) Unzip 3) Deploy guvnor-5.4.0.Final-jboss-as-7.0.war to JBoss AS 7.1.1.Final "Brontes" 4) Browsed to http://localhost:8080/guvnor-5.4.0.Final-jboss-as-7.0 5) Success. The only WELD error I encountered was when trying to simultaneously deploy 5.4.0-Final and 5.5.0-SNAPSHOT side-by-side (any two enabled and running instances would cause the same problem). Remove rule but timer still fires

I have a rule which runs every 2 seconds using *timer( int: 0ms 2s )* When I either disable *rule.setEnabled( new EnabledBoolean( false ) );* or remove the rule *pkg.removeRule( rule );* the timer continues to fire every 2 seconds. This is with version 5.4. I haven't been able to find the API for cancelling or stopping a timer. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Guvnor search for rules based on fact attributes

Hi folks, I have been asked by my current client to evaluate search functionality which could in essence search for rules which are affected by a particular fact value. For example, if we have a number of rules similar to the following format: when $req : TradeRequest(account = 10, buyCurrency = 'EUR', buyAmount > 5000000) then TradeValidationResponse response = new TradeValidationResponse(); response.setPermitted(false); response.setMessage("Account 10 is not permitted to trade more than 5000000 EUR"); insert(response); end What the client is interested in is being able to search for all rules which have been defined for account 10. I was thinking to mess around with a rather quick and dirty solution to grab the package source via the REST interface and pattern match rules in a very hard-coded way for this specific use-case. However, that does look like a rather fragile way of achieving this. So I was wondering whether anybody had looked at this sort of idea previously and might have thoughts on a 'better' or more generic solution, which wouldn't be massively complicated. I was thinking that it might be nice to extend the search mechanism in Guvnor so that I could pick a fact from the model and do a search for all rules which are based on the value of an attribute. However, every time I think about how that could be achieved, it seems I come up with new ways in which it would become really difficult to pull off. Any thoughts? Cheers, Steve

Slow compilation (4h) for a single rule

Hi, Recently I was trying to optimize the rule compilation time for my KB (~4K rules). I do a full KB compilation every night, as most of the rules are dynamic generated/converted and managed by the business operators. The compile time was not very good (around 3 hours on a 8 core Xeon CPU), but is was acceptable. On the other night I was alarmed that the compile time was doubled overnight without an obvious explanation or any relevant rule count increase. After some debuging I've traced the problem and was shocked to find that most of the rules KB (4K rules) compile under 5 minutes, except one. This single rule was taking all the 4h to compile! I'm using DROOLS 5.2 Final. Moving comment in DSLR file causes issue under 5.3

This is an odd one. I was testing some DSL and have been tracing back an error in the translation. The line marked in the code below, even as a comment, causes multiple "cannot be resolved" errors when moved. Any thoughts on what could cause this other than a bug? Note that almsot all of the code is commented and as it appears now generates the errors. If I move the line to the LHS the "cannot be resolved" errors go away. Drools/Tomcat/Mysql - dueling repository.xml's

I am fairly new to Drools. I am using guvnor 5.4.0. Final installed on Tomcat 7.0.27. Following the instructions in the documentation, I 1) Defined/downloaded the a repository.xml pointing to a mysql instance using the Administration -> Repository Configuration wizard. 2) Stopped Tomcat, removed the $CATALINA_HOME/bin/repository.xml and repository directory 3) Copied the new repository.xml to $CATALINA_HOME/bin 4) Started Tomcat 5) Using guvnor, my assets were created/stored in the mysql db 6) Stopped Tomcat 7) Started Tomcat 8) Guvnor wrote a new repository.xml into $CATALINA_HOME (NOT $$CATALINA_HOME/bin which still contained the db version created in step 1.) and had 'forgotten' about the assets created in step 5. 9) Stopped Tomcat 10) Replaced the $CATALINA_HOME/repository.xml with a copy of the $CATALINA_HOME/bin/repository.xml. 11) Started Tomcat 12) Guvnor started using the mysql instance again and 'remembered' the assets from step 5 Now there are two repository.xml files in $CATALINA_HOME and $CATALINA_HOME/bin. This should not be necessary re the documentation. Why did it create a new repository/repository.xml in $CATALINA_HOME after a Tomcat restart? Which repository.xml is it really using now? How can I convince it to only use one of them? Using Global Model for all packages

Hi Admins, I have been using GUVNOR 5.2 from sometime now. We have different packages created, as per the requirement of different teams. However, they do use the same MODEL. I was wondering if we could simply upload a jar in the global area, and use the same in every other package. I know that we can create models for each package and say Import asset from global area. However doing the same again and again, isnt helping me in any manner. The rules arent getting updated with the class files and the rules validation failes with in the Business Rule Assets. Is it that this doesnt work or is it that am missing on something??? Kindly assist ASAP. Hi Droolers, I am using DroolsObjectOutputStream/DroolsObjectInputStream to serialize/deserialzie a Stateful knowledgeSession. The process of serialziation worked well and the size of the file containing the serialzied infomation is about 150M. However, when I tried to deserialize the file into a session, I got an exception. NESTED LOOPS Possible

Hi, Please let me know nested loops are possible in drools or not.. Scenario like this needs to be developed list values : A,B,C,D,E,F.. Need to set 1 in Action if D is after C. So here i need to loook for D and if got again that list will be iterated and will check for C. Have tried this logic without nested loops and it works fine but performance wise its hitting. How to retract events that don't match any rules (without @expires())

Is there a recommended way to remove events from working memory that don't match and can't activate any rules? For example, let's say I have two rules which should both fire when a person with name "Bob" is encountered. If a person with name "Jim" comes in he stays in working memory forever even though he doesn't match any current rules. I know @expires() for Person events would work. But I don't know what a "safe" time would be since I don't know ahead of time what temporal rules might be written for them. >From the 5.4.0 Drools Fusion docs (Chapter 2) I found these statements: /"In other words, one an event is inserted into the working memory, it is possible for the engine to find out when an event can no longer match other facts and automatically retract it, releasing its associated resources."/ /"Events may be automatically expired after some time in the working memory. Typically this happens when, based on the existing rules in the knowledge base, the event can no longer match and activate any rules. Although, it is possible to explicitly define when an event should expire."/ Based on this statement I would expect my "Jim" to be automatically expired after "some time". Maybe it will be and I'm just not waiting long enough. But then I found this quote from Edson: /"Any object type for which there are no explicit expiration policy, nor temporal constraints from which to derive the expiration offset will have an infinite expiration offset, i.e., will never be automatically retracted."/ So my question is, how can I retract events which don't match any rules? Counting Number of Items in NESTED LIST

I have this use case: an Order can contain one or more items... each item is characterized by one or more measures. They are described by this simple pojo class. public class Order{ protected List<Item> itemList; public void setItemList (List<Item> itemList) { ... } public List<Item> getItemList() { ... } } public class Item { protected List<Measure> measureList; public void setMeasureList (List<Measure> measureList) { ... } public List<Measure> getMeasureList() { ... } } public class Measure { protected int measure; public getMeasure() { ... } public setMeasure() { ... } } Supposing i have in my Working Memory an Order containing 2 items. The first item contains 5 measures, the second one instead contains 12 Measures. Drools-expert: Memory Leak with org.mvel2.MVELRuntime

Hello, I am using Drools Expert v5.30 with mvel-2.1.0-drools4.jar. In my program, i run drools in a specific classloader (child first urlClassloader) and i maybe detect a memory Leak with the class org.mvel2.MVELRuntime. In the method resetDebugger, the content of the threadLocal is never set to null, so i have a reference in the main thread to this instance. After call debuggerContext.set(null) with the magic of instropection, the memory leak disappear (and i can reload my specific classloader). Is this bug already checked? (I have scan google with no result) Does it concerns drools or mvel? For what this class is useful? Deploying Guvnor 5.4.0.Final on JBossAS 7.1.2.Final

Hi all, I'm currently testing Guvnor(guvnor-distribution-wars-5.4.0.Final-jboss-as-7.0.war) on AS 7.1 and it seems to work fine apart from logging. I tried to play around with jboss-deployment-structure.xml to include and exclude the logging libraries from Jboss and also removing the logging jar's from WEB-INF/lib without success. Also tried to tweak the log4j.xml on WEB-INF/classes. Did someone else faced the same problem? I couldn't get any log on stdout or on any other logger. Any advice on how could it be fixed? Hi, I am new to drools, currently i have deployed drools-guvnor5.3 on jboss AS 5.1GA. I want to use guvnor asset editor in my custom application. DSL translatio problem for !ucfirst under 5.1.1

I have solved this problem before, and think it is a JAR issue, but can't seem to remember which JAR solves my problem. The DSL sentence [consequence][]Set {field} of {object} to {value}={object}.set{field!ucfirst}({value}); is not working since !ucfirst is being ignored. I am using 5.1.1 because of a reoccurring bug with the in-place DSL editor of more recent versions of DROOLS (there are JIRA's opened, closed, reopened and commented on the bug.) What JAR would I have wrong or be missing that causes !ucfirst to not be processed, ie converting {field} to its setter? Error on Build Package Click

I got the following error when I tryed to build the default sample repository after starting guvnor the first time. I then tried to build my own package, and got the same error: 400 Sorry, a technical error occurred. Please contact a system administrator. Drools Planner changing problem fact

Hi all, i am new to drools planner and try to model a 2dimensional rectangle packing problem. I have some problems modelling the problem facts because one of them (the list of free spaces) is constantly changing. For example I have a list of rectangles I try to pack on a fixed size layer. This list is fixed. But the list of free space is dynamic (first you have the whole layer as free space, then you cut out the space occupied by the first rectangle which gives you 3 remaining free spaces, and so on) All the examples in the drools-planner-examples seem to have a fixed list of problem facts (rooms, teachers, timeslots) which only should be combined optimally. Drools Guvnor-Decison Tables - Rule is not being fired!!! Please help

Hi, I'm using default Guvnor package "mortgages" decision table as example for my POC. Below is the rules from the decision table. Drools Guvnor 5.4.0 - Rules integration with database (Oracle)

Hi, I working on creating a POC by creating set of web based rules within a package using drools Guvnor and accessing them from my Java client. Currently, my drools uses Jackrabbit repository (2 foldersrepository and scripts and 1 file repository.xml) which is created within "bin" folder of my JBoss AS. I have gone through the steps given in user guide for database integration, I am using Oracle as my database and i generated oracle based repository.xml using the administration in Drools Guvnor and placed it under my bin folder. I have stopped the server and deleted exsting 2 folders and one xml file. I have restarted my server with the deployment of drools-guvnor.war. When i start the guvnor web, it has asked me whether to load the sample packages for the fisrt time, i said yes. Now when i go and see in bin directory, i could still see one respository folder. Also, i could see there were 6-7 tables have been created in oracle database which were belongs to jboss drools only. I would need some experts suggestion here, is it the right way to do the rule integration with the database? What is right way to promote the same changes to SIT or UAT? Hi Team, I was just wondering what is the status of the development behind Drools Chance? I forked the repository on GitHub and am quite impressed with the entire module, however I cannot tell how stable it is. So, I was wondering if there are any plans for a stable release, or if the module is still being developed. Thank you, Nick
