Why does it seem like salience is being ignored?

I'm using drools-camel 5.4.0.Final. ksession is stateful, I'm in STREAM mode, and rules are fired with fireUntilHalt(). My test route is: from( "direct:test-message" ).to( "drools://node/ksession1?action=insertMessage" ); I'm sending my objects into the engine like so: template.sendBody( "direct:test-message", new Person( "Bob" ) ); template.sendBody( "direct:test-message", new Person( "Jim" ) ); I have two rules that I'd like to fire in a specific order (1a followed by 1b). If I define rule1a first in my drl it fires first as I would expect (with or without a salience specified). But if I define rule1b first, that fires first even though rule1a has a higher salience. Duplicate Rule Invocations

Hi, I'm getting duplicate rule invocations when a rule is added to the KnowledgeBase after the facts have been inserted in the StatefulKnowledgeSession. Setting and extracting different values for the same object using rules

suppose i have an object Customer and i insert the object of customer in the session... class Customer { custID; //getter and setter } Customer customer = new Customer() ksession.insert(customer) now i fire a couple of rules on this object.. and within the rules, the custID is set with three different values. Average over window

Dear Drools users, I'm new to Drools but loving it so far. I have a question about accumulate and window:lengt: What I want: "Display the average order value considering the last 200 orders for one type of product. I want have at least 10 orders for one product before drawing any conclusions" How I solved it now, it's not working as I want it: I now insert product objects to be able to group the orders per product. The first problem is that the list of products is not unique but every insert creates a new product object (even though the product object has already been inserted for that productId), so the second rule is triggered way too often. I don't actually want to insert this product object, but I don't know how else to group on product otherwise. Any help on this part is greatly appreciated. The second problem is that the window doesn't seem to use all the orders matching the product, it just limits the rule to use the last 200 orders, not the last 200 orders for that product. Is there a way to make this smarter? Planner - IntConstraintOccurrence not being retracted

I've been building a prototype similar to CloudBalancing. I've got IntConstraintOccurrence objects being inserted via insertLogical() through my rules. For some reason, I don't think these are being retracted as expected -- the count() of accumulated IntConstraintOccurrence's ramps up to 10x what I expected to be (and the sum of weights is similarly 10x what I expect). my error here in looking to extend CachedMoveFactory. Obviously, the moves are cached, and not regenerated each forage. I suppose if I wanted to achieved what I wanted, I'd just override isMoveDoable() to make it more discerning -- but,as the JavaDoc suggests, there's little benefit to doing this. How to Access Rule RHS (THEN Part) from JAVA?

Hi Drools Gurus, One more newbie here for Drools Guvnor. I have chosen "guvnor-distribution-5.3.0.Final" (I could see version as SNAPSHOT 5.4.0 within Guvnor-->Administration-->About) to start with. After reading through the complete user manual, I was able to setup and deploy Drools Guvnor war in JBoss AS 7. My intension is to access all the rules that i have created using Guvnor web. I have written a java test case to access my Rules which are resided in a drools Package using REST API. I was successful to access them using standard Authentication mechanism with charset*.xml. Even though i was able to call fireAllRules with specific rule using "AgendaFilter" provided. But i was not able to access the values at RHS after a specific rule got fired. For Example, i want to access "percent value as 2.5" after the below sample rule is successfully executed, I have uploaded my model jar to Guvnor containing Person & LoanFormula classes. ---Rule 1 (please do not see the syntax errors) WHEN Person age > 25 ---- THEN LoanFormula percent = 2.5 .... .... Drools Guvnor - question on "mortgages" package in "guvnor-distribution-5.4.0.Final"

Hi, I have deployed drools-guvnor.war version 5.4.0 in Jboss AS 7. When i launch the guvnor for the first time, it also loads the defalult packages, one package is called "mortgages" is also loaded. Mortgages package contans totally 7 diff. rules, but when i go see the model of the mortgages i do not see any classes displayed over there. But, i was able to build & create deployment SNAPSHOT successfully. Even the rule DSL source contains all classes like LoanApplication etc.,. How is it possible? Planner - Initialized solution & local search

I'm using v5.4. I've built a prototype which uses the constructionHeuristic, and localSearch, as the example does, and am able to run the solver (though it still doesn't do a good job of solving at this point). I've now added customSolverPhase, and set it to use an initializer class which implements CustomSolverPhaseCommand. In my changeWorkingSolution, I call scoreDirector.beforeEntityAdded(), and then set the planning entity's planning variable, and then call afterEntityAdded(). If I leave any entities unadded -- and let the constructionHeuristic (BEST_FIT, etc) do the fitting (which I can verify from the logs)-- I then get this exception: /java.lang.IllegalStateException: Phase localSearch started with an uninitialized Solution. First initialize the Solution. For example, run a phase constructionHeuristic first./ For now, I can update my code to ensure that all of the entities are fitted and bypass the constructionHeuristic, but I'm curious why this error is getting thrown. I did hunt through the source code to look at all the isInitialized() methods, but I haven't yet stepped through to see which one returns false any why. Updation of variables within rule table and use of it in other rule table

So what I want is the b to get updated when RuleTable X is used and when RuleTable Y is used the updation should reflect when the rules are getting executed. Is there any way of doing it. Serialization issue with StateKnowledgeSession

FireUntilHalt

I have a fairly complicated drools program and I want to introduce temporal reasoning to it. I spent a bit of time writing some proof-of-concept programs to get the feel of fusion and then tried to slowly introduce things into my original drools program. When I changed my program from using fireAllRules() to using fireUntilHalt() on a separate thread, I suddenly get failures in my unit tests. (My first thought was that there was a race condition between my unit tests and the thread calling fireUntilHalt() so I introduced a delay before my unit tests but no luck) Here are some of the behaviors I am seeing. 1) I occasionally get nullpointerexception from the thread running fireUntilHalt() 2) My lock-on-active rules aren't firing I have banged my head on this a while with no success. (I even tried putting fireAllRules() in a loop because of suggestions I saw but no luck and same behavior). My questions are, Is there a secret to using fireUntilHalt() that I am not aware of? Can anybody point me to where I can educate myself on its proper use? BTW no persistence and no spring in the code at this point. Thanks, in advance, for any help you can provide. Rule refiring issue !

[Solved] Concurrency bug in 5.4.0.Final

Hi all, Just a heads up, in case you are using the community release 5.4.0.Final in a multi-threaded application, be aware that we found a quite serious racing condition bug: https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBRULES-3573 The bug is now fixed in 5.4.x branch, so I strongly recommend that you build from source and use that instead. The bug was also fixed in the up-stream branch and will be released in 5.5.0. IMPORTANT: if you are a Red Hat subscriber, you don't need to do anything as the problem did not exist in the product release. Issue

I have two objects vehicles and transactions. I am fetching values of all transactions from db and using an list and setting in the vehicles object. for example let have three columns and four rows.. name date price A 12/07 700 B 12/07 100 D 13/07 100 C 14/07 150 i will be looping like this drools spreadsheet. $v1:vehicles() transaction() from$v1.transactionList Now i need to check for C in names and if there is D above to that need to set true. Error occured when replacing commons-lang2.4 with commons-lang3-3.1 in Guvnor 5.4.0 Final

Hi, All I am using Guvnor 5.4.0 Final with Tomcat 6.0.35. And I wanted to replace commons-lang2.4 with commons- lang3-3.1, so I overwrote the commons-lang2.4 jar file in Guvnor's WEB-INF/lib directory with commons- lang3-3.1.jar. However an error like follows occured: Service method 'public abstract long org.drools.guvnor.client.rpc.AssetService.getAssetCount(org.drools.guvnor.client.rpc.AssetPageRequest) throws com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.SerializationException' threw an unexpected exception: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/commons/lang/StringUtils org/apache/commons/lang/StringUtils I have restarted Guvnor. Deploy ModeShape to Tomcat issue (Guvnor 5.4.0 Final)

Hi, In order to trying connect Guvnor to DB2, I am trying another JCR modeshape instead of jackrabbit. I downloaded modeshape-2.8.1.Final, and I am using Tomcat 6.0.x. My first question is, should I just copy some of modeshape jar in /lib directory (I currently do), or I should install it as a service in Tomcat? Second quesion, If I have to install it, how can I do that? Besides, I am not able to find the modeshape-service.jar in 'modeshape-2.8.1.Final' which is mentioned in the Guvnor manual, therefore I am also not able to locate and modify the following files: - modeshape-roles.properties - modeshape-users.properties - modeshape-services.jar/modeshape-config.xml Is it because I didn't install it as a service? Any help or instruction will be appreciated. UrlResource returning 401 error in Drools 5.4

Hi. We're trying to upgrade to Drools 5.4 and use the KnowledgeAgent to retrieve ChangeSets from Guvnor. We're getting an error from the KnowledgeAgent stating "Unable to parse ChangeSet", and have traced it down to the UrlResource class is returning: "Server returned HTTP response code: 401 for URL: http://localhost:8080/drools-guvnor/org.drools.guvnor.Guvnor/package/org...." when getInputStream() is called. Has something changed with respect to authorization? This works fine with Drools 5.3. Best practice for using calendar-based rules?

Hi, I am using drools 5.4 via the web-based server (running in tomcat). My rulebase is stored (and created/maintained) in guvnor. I have a template rule (in guvnor) that I use to define alert conditions. The template has a few columns that allow users to specify several properties of an event on which they would like to be alerted. For example, they can change integer thresholds, set regular expression strings to check against, etc. This has been working well. Now, I want to add a calendar-based aspect to the template rule. So, a user can specify something like, "tell me if an event like this comes in AND it is a weekend." I have considered making a java function or pojo that interprets some string in a template column, which I would then use in the template rule to return true/false. I also considered making a canned set of weekly and daily Quartz calendars so that they could provide a list of calendar names to use. For example "weekendsOnly, offHoursOnly" etc. My question: Have you done anything like this or do you have any thoughts about a clean way to implement it? Is there something simple I am missing? stack shape inconsistent on rule evaluation

Most times everything works fine but sometimes a get a "stack shape inconsistent" exception on a default consequence invoker. hey, is there a method by which i can compare two string ignoring there case ?? for me writing the code as foo : ObjectTypeA() bar : ObjectTypeB( name.equalsIgnoreCase( foo.name ) ) is a long process because i m comparing the values of string which are present inside a map..and there are loads of comparision.. $h : HashMap(this["Account_Ownership_Type"]=="Single") Does drools have an easier way for ignore case comparision ?? Migrating from 4.0.7 to 5.4.0.Final

Hi all, I'm currently in the process of migrating an application using drools 4.0.7 to 5.4.0.Final and I've stumbled into a few issues with the new version that I find disturbing: - Our unit tests failed because the JVM ran out of perm gen space, which looks odd as in 4.0.7 we've had quite a margin to start with. - Doing several Yourkit analysis, I finally find classloading leaks: * *org.drools.rule.builder.dialect.asm.ClassGenerator.EMPTY_METHOD_BODY* is a static instance which will hold to the last instance of InternalClassLoader created * *org.drools.rule.constraint.MvelConstraint* uses an ExecutorHolder that spawns daemon threads and keeps them in a pool. Problem is these threads create class loaders, and can only be garbage collected when the thread dies, meaning never in my case... - I've quick fixed both issues, the second one by simply disabling the thread pool. - Once this is done, the perm gen behaves correctly, but the execution times are 2-3 times slower on very large set of rules (~1000). Looking at Yourkit analysis again, I see that the number of classes generated and the perm gen consumption is about 3 times higher in 5.4.0.Final. I honestly don't know how to address this. I've tried to find some other posts concerning these issues, to no avail. I don't see any work around this, short of code changes, and for reducing the number of generated classes I simply have no idea. How to batch high freq events before sending to RHS

I have events that come in bursts and I'd like to handle them in batches instead of individually. So in English it would be something like "Collect events that look like this for 10 seconds and send the list to my RHS." I've tried several combinations of collect, accumulate, and "over window:time()" but the best I can do is get the list sent to my RHS each time an event is added to it. I feel like I'm close. MySQL and Derby issues with Guvnor

I have changed the defualt Derby DB to MySQL DB for the JacRabbit in Guvnor. I see this below exception when I try to up the JBOSS 5.0.1 AS and Guvnor. I get the error when I execute the deployement server Jboss 5.0.1. Does *drools decision table* supports multiple number of arguments?? Like in the cell I will have some thing like 1,2,3,4 or it can be 1,2,4 and I will call a function which basicaly does addToList(int... values) Or is there any alternative way to add multiple element in a list?? Performance issue

Hi All, I have written a code to check the properties of a bean using drools based rules. I have created the different rules file where different properties of the bean will be checked. Here the issue is that it takes around 4 seconds for the first time and 1 second for all consecutive requests, and 4 second looks too much time for validating the rules file that has only 10 rules. Hi Guys, Have been using Guvnor to create some decision tables and got a few questions on the use of certain Operators in the Condition Columns - what value do you put in for matches and sounds like? Basically i want to create a condition where i can check starts with or end with in relation to a string, is this possible using the perdefined operators or how would i acheive this? so if i want to check "Hello" to see if it starts with "He" - what value would put in the field? ConcurrentModificationException loading facts from db (Hibernate).

In my use case, I have ~ 200,000 rows in a table that I need lookup in order to price an item. Rather than load the entire table into working memory,I'm trying load the relevant rows (based on a matching criteria) and load those as facts and then have my rules evaluate the loaded facts. Based on that I've got the following rule : rule "Load pricelist" salience 10000 when $priceUnit : PriceUnit() not ( exists Pricelist( id.prodid == $priceUnit.prodid ) ) $unitPrices : ArrayList() from collect ( Pricelist() from PricelistUtilities.getPriceLists($priceUnit.prodid) ) then for( Pricelist priceList : (List<Pricelist>) $unitPrices ) { insert (priceList); } end In the rule above - 'PriceUnit' is the unit that I'm trying to price. And 'Pricelist' is the facts that I'm trying to fetch from a table based on the prodid matching and inserting those into WM. The PricelistUtilities.getPriceList returns a list of price list items that match the 'Product id' (prodid). In the RHS, all I'm trying to iterate over the list of pricelists and then insert those into WM. eval call from java code

Good day everyone: Sorry if this is a too basic question. I'm having a recurrent problem on my rules and I still don't know how to really solve it, I searched here at the forum but I'm not so sure that the solutions proposed would work for my use case. I have to call many different methods on the LHS of some of my rules so I insert a global 'utils' object and I make my calls within eval() blocks, like this: $myObj1: ClassX (eval(globalUtil.reSupplyNeeded(amount) )) Everything works fine for now. I wrapped all my util methods within try catch blocks to avoid screwing up my stateful session (in my use case, is CRITICAL to keep the session alive). So, if an exception is thrown, I return false or true depending on the method. My main problem is with evals where I do comparisons like this one: eval($myObj1.doSomething()==$myObj2.doSomething()) I have many of these and some times I get an annoying NPE. I know I could add !=null comparisons but my rules would grow considerably. eval is extremely useful so I was wondering if I can call it from my utility class, something like this: On my Drl file: rule "eval called from here and utility class" when $someObj1 : ClassX() $someObj2 : ClassY() $myObj : Class1( eval( globalUtil.doEval($someObj1.doSomething()==$someObj2.doSomething() ) ) ) then ...bla bla bla end On my Utility Class public boolean doEval(ClassIDontKnow argument){ try{ //I don't know if this even exists, just asking if it's possible return Drools.eval(argument); } catch(Exception e){ logger.error("Something bad happened!!"); return false; } } Is something like this even possible?? , if not, other approach that you would recommend me?? KnowledgeAgent custom class loader not working for PKG resources

I believe there may be a bug when trying to use a custom class loader with the KnowledgeAgent and the KnowledgeBuilderConfiguration, and when the ChangeSet is a PKG resource. I have been trying to get the knowledge-agent-classloader sample from the new Drools Cookbook to work with a PKG resource. The sample works fine for a DRL resource, but when I convert it to use my fact jar, and a PKG resource containing my rules, which I downloaded from Guvnor, it throws a ClassNotFoundException for my fact model. If I put my fact model in the classpath, the error goes away and my rules can be added to the KnowledgeAgent and run correctly. Following is the code from the sample that I have converted, and I have attached a zip file with a complete project demonstrating the problem. Globals - delegate

This is from Expert (5.4.0): Using a delegate is another way of global resolution. Assigning a value to a global (with setGlobal(String, Object)) results in the value being stored in an internal collection mapping identifiers to values. Identifiers in this internal collection will have priority over any supplied delegate. Only if an identifier cannot be found in this internal collection, the delegate global (if any) will be used. For setting a delegate, I've found org.drools.runtime.Globals and void Globals.setDelegate(Globals delegate) and the KnowledgeRuntime /StatelessKnowledgeSession method Globals getGlobals() Does this mean that one might take a Globals object from one session and use it as a delegate to the Globals of another session? GUVNOR 5.4 JBOSS v4.2.3 deployment error

I only get the exception when the 'detailedPrice' of PriceUnit is set to false (i.e. when "Price Unit by Prodid, Grade, Pattern 0000" is attempting to fire. If I set detailedPrice to true, the other rules fire just fine. If I comment out the 'update ( $priceUnit );', the consequence fires just fine, but then other rules fire as well. When PriceUnit's pattern is set to anything other than '1234', then too consequence of ""Price Unit by Prodid, Grade, Pattern 0000"" rule fires just fine and I get the following output (correctly so) : Pricing unit : PriceUnit [prodid=001001, coverGrade= A, coverSeries=3456, coverColor=05, basePrice=null] from Pricelist [prodid=001001, cover= A0000null, basePrice=599] Retracting ...PriceUnit [prodid=001001, coverGrade= A, coverSeries=3456, coverColor=05, basePrice=599] What is causing the 'NullPointerException' ?
