We have an explicit dependency on 2.0.1 since 2010-07-06. https://github.com/hibernate/hibernate-search/commit/7cf0a4517119d46bd156... I can't see how this would have worked before without the dependency on the repo. Reminder, the dependency is not present in the repo https://repository.jboss.org/nexus/content/repositories/releases/org/jbos... To reproduce, run mvn dependency:tree under Hibernate Search's root. I guess as you said, the best approach would be to migrate to the latest version and make sure everything still works.
