A scan of all the jars shows that the class is missing.

that class is part of the kie-ci.jar. Do you have it on your classpath?

No, Mario.
What I do is to download the zipped tarball of some Drools release,
and then I tar -xzf it. The binary subdirectory contains all the .jars
I should need for running Drools applications - at least, that has
been my understanding since 5.1.1. Not so for 6.0.0: the kie-ci.jar
you've named is not there.
Interesting: The OP (on stackoverflow) stated that he did not see the
part of the stack trace where it says that this class can't be found.

You're right Wolfgang. The problem is that kie-ci has been mistakenly left
out from the drools-distribution.
I fixed this issue last week, so it will be packaged in the distribution
together with other jars from next release.
In the meanwhile you can download it from the maven repository, for instance
you can find its 6.0.1.Final version here:

Hello,
I am not 100 % sure, but I think you need to have the org.kie:kie-ci jar
on CP (and explicitly listed in you pom.xml in case of Maven). The
kie-ci-6.0.1.Final.jar contains the class
org.kie.scanner.KieRepositoryScannerImpl.
If you already have that, then the CNFE seems like a bug to me.
