Problems with Decision Table

Hello, I am using JBoss Rules 3.1.0M1. I am using the decision table. I don't know how we can check something like DateField <= currentDate? I have tried to put Today() in data column and in condition I have put DueDt <= $1. But this gives error that 'Unexpected Token' .Is there any way to put current date like new Date() in Dicision table. Also I noticed that the 'Or' condition doesn't work properly. For example if i have to enter the condition like "Policy is Live or Policy is Cancelled" do this 'Msg'. I have to repeat the Action (Msg) field for both the rows with live and cancelled. Is there any other way to implement 'Or'? Another thing is can we use the condition without passing the data field? For example if I put DueDt <= new java.util.Date() in condition table and no fields in data column, will it work? Please let me know. Hi, Steve, --- I can certainly look at adding some extra config options to the listeners to allow an end row/column to be specified. I'm not sure the other things would be useful to many people (correct me if I'm wrong). --- That definitely would be useful. As to the 'data driven template selection', I don't know if many people ran into such use cases or not. One thing for sure, the data model in Excel spreadsheet can be simplified to a great degree for many applications if one can select appropriate rule template for particular rule (meaning, the columns or combination of columns can mean slightly different things for each row). It's somewhat similar to the MVC pattern, where Model - is data in Excel spreadsheet, View - the rule tempaltes in drl file. The thing that is 'missing' (or not quite missing - it's not very flexible and does not depend on the data submitted) is the data driven Controller. Right now the 'Controller' is driven from the 'outside' by 'hardcoded' links between data and template (hardcoded in a sense that someone has to define which template goes with which model). The rule template 'data' can not be applied to any rule template, but just to the template it was supposed to be used with. It seems like it might be good to maintain this dependency right with the rule data. If you would have time to make the modification (indicate end column/row) that would help to achieve such functionality (I'll write the preprocessing module and submit it here when/if I eventually get to it). Yet even more powerful concept might be to be able to define 'rule template name' within the same 'rule template' file vs a separate rule template file. The implementation might be a bit more involved though... Thanks! If you do go down the preprocessing option you could use JXL instead of POI as you will already have a dependency on it for the drools decision table stuff. Unless there is some more low level API which allows to insert 'interceptor' which would monitor each record that is being read by compiler and create new listener if appropriate entry is found in the particular column (eg, one column in the spreadsheet might have template name entry which remains the same for all records below unless changed to a new value)..... Null Checks

All, I am in the process of migrating my rules from the 2.1 format to the 3.0.5format and I was wondering if the new version automatically does Null checks. How to stop rules

Hello, i want to stop the rule engine when some spezial rules fire. I am working for rules for an online shop. The Problem (example) A rule finds out that we cannot put a book into the onlineshop besause the price is to low, not defined, ....! These rule has a high salience. When this happends we can stop going on and create an error. In javacode i can write my one exception and and throw it. But what can i do in Jboss Rule? Regards & Thanks Stefan

Problem in Defining Rules

I am trying to use Drools with Spring-Hibernate. I don't know whether it's a proper way of using Drools with Spring and Hibernate. I am having the MVC application in Spring. This MVC application is having the form for adding the employee id and employee name. I have a bean for Employee. And EmployeeContoller using SimpleFormController in Spring. And I am having the DAO Interface with two methods addEmp(Employee e) and displayEmp(empid) and the implementation for this interface in Hibernate. What I am trying to do is, I am checking a conditon in .drl file, if it satisfies the condition in the then part I need to save the employee bean into database. Well, probably to rephrase it, what is the status / thoughts on 'else' construct for rules? Basically global 'logical' not for rules would be the 'else' branch of conditional statement (if DROOLS had one), correct? I've read some postings regarding this shortly after I joined the list (ie, around a month ago). I wonder if that discussion went anywhere.... To clarify, I do need the _logical_ not, NOT exisitential. So that the constructs with logical 'not' would select an 'inverse' fact tuples, ie, tuples for facts that did not the condition.... Kind of simple logical statement transformation in boolean algebra (DeMorgan law?...): MyObject( field == 'value' ) and MyObject2( field == 'value' ) ---> !( MyObject( field != 'value' ) or MyObject2( field != 'value' ) ) If '!' would mean "ALL TUPLES FOR FACTS IN THE RULE" XOR "SELECTED TUPLES", would the above conditions select the same set of tuples? I assume the engine should just 'expand' any such 'logical not' operands to move it into the coluimn constraints?.. I might be confusing smth though.... On the second thought for my particular case 'existential' not should work too, so I guess the above is just a possible extention of functionality. It really has nothing to do with the rule engine itself (from what I see), but rather transformation of the logical expressions before they are feeded into the rules engine. Mapping (or converting) RuleML to .drl file

A question regarding licensing

Hello list, I'm somewhat confused about how to license my software. I have made a couple of searches on the net, but could not come up with any good solution. That's the situation: JBoss Rules is licensed under the Apache License. It does, however contain Eclipse compiler components, which are licensed under the EPL. My project also builds upon the Eclipse RCP, which is EPL, too. Now I'm uncertain under which license I can or must release my software. Is it Apache License (from what I understand after my research, it is the more restrictive one of the two), or could I release under EPL, too? It is especially unclear to me if I did create a derivative work of JBoss Rules or even Eclipse, since I did not modify any of its code, I'm only using the product in my project. I'd be grateful for any enlightenment or weblinks to information on that matter. Best regards Marcus

Recursion problem due to modify an object.

Hi, I am explaining the scenerio of recursion problem which I am facing. To resolve this problem I have made some changes in drools code. I am explaining about the changes which I have made. some changes in following functions. (type boolean). By making these changes i am able to execute a rule single time only even whether there is any modify statement in rule.
