Hello, I'm starting to work with the drools-solver to help on a gaming project. Basically, we have a game that works in two modes: 1) a competitive game where humans (or agents) compete with one another on a well defined game board to achieve 24 points by using three (or four) agricultural development tokens. 2. A puzzle, where all 4 players work cooperatively to create an equitable solution, where all 4 players win with at least 24 points by means of our agricultural development tokens. I am starting to work with drools-solver to address the puzzle part of our game. Basically, we are interested in having the solver do two things for us: a) find the optimal solution for our game/puzzle, based upon our requirements [this part seems quite straightforward] and b) getting the total number of solutions that satisfy our constraints. We would like, as well, to be able to inspect these other, sub-optimal, solutions, in order to explore our game and puzzle further. From my reading of the "Solver" API , it looks like we will only be able to get the optimal solution. Does anyone have any suggestions for a workaround in this case? Or is there some functionality in the solver that I am missing? Need help with setFocus

Hi All, Need some help with understanding setFocus. I have the following use case: if (condition1) { if (condition2) { } else if (condition3) { } else if (condition 4) { } } if (condition5) { if (condition2) { } else if (condition3) { } else if (condition 4) { } } I created 3 rules (rule2, rule3, rule4) for checking condition2, condition3, condition4 and created 1 agenda group (groupX) for them. I created 2 rules (rule1, rule5) for checking condition1, condition5 and created 1 agenda group(groupY) for them. rule "rule1" agenda-group "groupY" when // then drools.setFocus("groupX"); end rule "rule3" agenda-group "groupX" activation-group "someActiveGroup" when // then // end >From the java code: ksession.getAgenda().getAgendaGroup("groupY").setFocus(); Problem: The first time, drools.setFocus("groupX") is invoked, I see that it's working fine. rule2 or rule3 or rule4 get triggered. But, the SECOND time that drools.setFocus("groupX") is invoked, I don't see that any rule in agenda-group groupX is being invoked...even though one of the rule's LHS explicitly matches...thinking that the activation-group is cancelling all the activation's (after one rule in that activation group is fired), I even removed the activation-group statement. But, it didn't help...ideally, I would like to bunch rule2, rule3, rule4 in one activation group. Can you please let me know as to why the second invocation of setFocus is not working? I even tried to remove everything in LHS of rule2/3/4, to see if the second invocation would work...it doesn't... Drools beginner - unable to resolve method using strict-mode

Hi, I'm new to drools, and I made my first steps using the very nice video-tutorial "Build Pong in 13 minutes using JBoss Drools" found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Omj4PR3v-nI Eclipse shows building errors, but Pong start anyway. For anyone looking for a good and complex example on how to write rules properly, please look at Conways Game of Life in drools-examples, for extra bonus points compare it to the old version in M1. You'll see nearly all the logic is moved from java to the drl and we have removed the need for nested objects by using objects relaitionally, which also allows us to exploit cross products to drive the application. Embedding Guvnor 6 Guided Editor

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade to the new kie workbench 6.. i really need to be able to embed the guided editor within my application. I've done this previously using the iframe approach. I can't seem to find any documentation on how to do this in the latest release. Sorry if i've overlooked any documentation on this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.. Cheers. Persistence in Drools 6

Hello All, I am trying to set up persistence for a standalone Drools (6.0.1.Final) application that uses JPA, Hibernate (4.3.5.Final) and Bitronix (2.1.4) via Spring (4.0.3.RELEASE). On the persistence side everything appears to be set up correctly. For my Drools session I use a KieContainer to create a new stateful session using an environment set up with the EntityManagerFactory and TransactionManager set. The problem that I am experiencing however is that nothing is getting persisted to the database. I have poured over the docs at least two dozen times and searched the net for anything related. I have tried digging down into the execute a bit but can't find any point at which the TransactionManager or EntityManagerFactory are used. As I said above I know Hibernate is set up correctly as well as Bitronix. I can see them working just fine in the logs and they definitely are hitting the database (and create tables for sessioninfo and workingmemory as they should). Ruleflow not working with stateless session in drools-server 5.5.0.Final

I am running drools-server 5.5.0.Final and I am having a problem with stateless sessions and ruleflows. Only the first step in the ruleflow executes. There is a catch to my problem though. I have drools-server hosted in JBoss 7.1. If I restart the service by disabling and then enabling via the admin console then the ruleflow works correctly (all nodes hit) one time. So, it always works just after the service starts. Each time after the first rule execution it stops at the first ruleflow node. I am sending commands to the service in JSON format through the REST interface. If I send the same commands in the same order through Java / eclipse then the ruleflow works correctly every time. I've reproduced this issue with a simple example: 1. Create a new "Drools Project" in Eclipse Kepler with Drools 6.0.1.Final installed (JDK 1.7) with simple "Hello World" rule example. Project builds OK. 2. Create the following new class: public class EnumTest { private enum EnumType { On, Off } private EnumType et = EnumType.On; public EnumTest() {} public String TypeText() { switch(et) { case On: return "On"; case Off: return "Off"; default: return ""; } } } 3. Rebuild project. Eclipse reports Problem: Drools Error: "Cannot switch on a value of type EnumTest.EnumType. Only convertible int values or enum variables are permitted" 4. Export Ant Build file for the project and run the Ant Build. Build successful. 5. Create a vanilla Java Project (no Drools) and add the same EnumTest class. Eclipse project builds OK. As the project builds OK via Ant, it appears that this is an issue with the Eclipse incremental builder conflicting with Drools 6. As noted in my previous post, it appears that Eclipse may be reducing JDK compiler compliance level down to 1.5 or referencing JRE 1.5 in class path as a result of this conflict, as I've occasionally noticed it changing these settings in project properties. Drools Fusion (CEP) & event life cycle

Hello. I'm testing event processing in Drools, and after some basic tests, I have some questions about event life cycle management. According to the documentation, in stream mode, events may be automatically discarded by the engine when no rule, currently or in the future, applies to them. In the following rule set (at the end of my post), the rule named "Processing new alert event" is expected to be executed when a new 'alert' notification event arrives and no previous alert exists. After an elementary test, the first matching notification produces the expected behavior and generates the Alert. But if a second matching notification is inserted, the rule is ignored as expected, since the Alert is already set, but the event object seems to be put durably in memory. When a 'stop' notification is inserted, the Alert object is cleared by the rule "Processing stop event after alert", as expected, but the second 'alert' notification that should be forgotten is raised from the memory and the first rule is fired again, creating an undesired second Alert. I've tried a workaround adding an "opposite rule" to check the processing of an 'alert' notification when there is a current Alert. As at the moment the notification object is inserted the two rules are candidate in the agenda, both are executed. I suppose I could try, for example, adding salience values to make the rules execute in a deterministic order... As you can see, I've added explicit deletion of the notification objects in the rules, and all seems to work as needed. But it seems really a bit cimplicated, and contradictory with the documentation... What did I miss ? Thanks for your help. Regards?
