I have deployed guvnor-6.0.0.Beta2-tomcat7.0.war on Tomcat 7 in Jelastic (a
cloud provider).
The guided rule editor does not come up and this is an exception I have
found in catalina.out:
org.jboss.errai.marshalling.client.api.exceptions.MarshallingException:
class is not available to the marshaller framework:

Hi,
Beta3 has better error handling.. so at least something (more) meaningful
should show.
Alternatively the real error is probably on a log somewhere (sorry, I don't
know where this would be on Jelastic).
If you're using the "mortgages" demo repository\project and opening the
rule that is a DSL containing a regular expression (I forget the name, but
it should be quite obvious) this is a known problem and is fixed for Beta4.
Otherwise, you're going to have to provide more information (the rule etc)
for investigation.

Indeed I have found the same exception now in the Jelastic logs.
The error message makes sense: I am not in the USA and neither is our
Jelastic hosting provider (we are in Switzerland). My local Tomcat is
running with a current Oracle JDK (jdk1.7.0_17). But "Unlimited Strength
Jurisdiction Policy Files" sounds like something the USA does not like to
share with the rest of the world :-) But I am just guessing.
I see now that I could download the missing files

and it would be legal to use unlimited strength cryptography in most
countries. But I don't think it is a good idea if I try to fix this on my
side, because I cannot change it in Jelastic.

We went with a different JCE algorithm earlier; but for Beta3 we use
PBEWithMD5AndDES (which is part of the standard JCE files and listed in
your email).
I'd recommend you therefore try with Beta3....

This sounds like you've installed Beta3 over the top of Beta2 (i.e.
Tomcat's /bin folder has bits of Beta2 in it).
Please try deleting .niogit from Tomcat's /bin folder (I think it's there,
it is on AS7) or .niogit where-ever it is!!!

You are right! I am using Tomcat 7 on Windows, simply unzipped, not
installed. I had the following three subdirectories in Tomcat's bin
directory:
* .index
.niogit
repository

I have deleted these (but I can't do that in Jelastic...) and now things
look better.
But unfortunately I am behind a corporate firewall and that prevents Guvnor
from starting because it cannot connect to GitHub. It would be nice if the
application came up and had an option for defining a proxy, i.e. the
connection to GitHub should not be made automatically on startup. But I
don't know if this is possible and whether GitHub is only used for the demo
or more...
Or do you have another recommendation how users behind corporate firewalls
should use Guvnor?

Hello,
At the moment we configure the application's bootstrap (i.e. global
settings, default repositories etc) programmatically.
For FINAL this will be done via an installer and hence you would not need
to connect to any GIT repository you did not want to.
Have you tried setting a proxy using JVM flags:

The default repository is:
https://github.com/guvnorngtestuser1/guvnorng-playground.

I /think/ I finally managed to pass on the proxy settings to the Guvnor
application. I had tried with CATALINA_OPTS, but obviously (at least now)
one must use JAVA_OPTS for this purpose.

Have you tried deleting the infamous .niogit folder again?
The reason being our programmatic bootstrap is "sensitive" I.e. it doesn't
check for partial configuration in the event bootstrapping failed mid-way
(e.g. cloning a repo).

searched files by modification date and verified all newer files). I then
tried to deploy drools-wb-6.0.0.Beta3-tomcat7.0.war one more time, but got
the same exception again (java.util.NoSuchElementException ArrayList
JGitFileSystem).
I am not very familiar with Git, but I could imagine that a corporate
firewall can cause trouble for some operations.
Looks like I have to wait for the final version.
Our Jelastic instance cannot currently be used for experiments, but I will
try Beta3 on Jelastic later on and report my findings here. This will be an
interesting test because it eliminates the effects of our firewall.

Hello,
I just ran drools-wb on Tomcat 7 (admittedly from source, which might be a
little different to Beta3.. but nothing I can think of that'd affect
startup).
I had a few hick-ups with an old .niogit and .index folders, but once I
deleted .niogit, .index and repository folders from /bin it started fine
and I could go to the screens to author rules.
I assume the RTE you get is at start-up or do I need to drill down into
some part of the application?

surfing I do not need credentials, but maybe using GitHub is different.

the same operations that Guvnor is attempting. Would that be helpful? If
yes: Could you tell me what (logical) steps I have to do with Git?

In .niogit there are 2 git repositories.
- system.git
- uf-playground.git
system.git is created programmatically and contains various settings. You
cannot clone this from anywhere.
uf-playground.git is a clone of
https://github.com/guvnorngtestuser1/guvnorng-playground. You will need to
convert it to a bare repository:

OK, I have successfully cloned the playground from behind the firewall. No
credentials were needed for the proxy, just host and port.
The following keywords lead me to believe that it is probably the creation
of system.git that fails. My Tomcat runs on a Windows 7 machine. Are you
working with Linux or a Mac?
Hard to tell what is going wrong. I even tried running Tomcat as
Administrator in case that creating files in my Tomcat's bin directory would
require elevated privileges. But that did not help.

OK, so I have repeated the test, Tomcat running with Admin privileges on
Windows 7 and correct proxy settings. I get the same exception as in
unprivileged mode (NoSuchElementException at java.util.ArrayList in

I hope I did this right:
a) stopped Tomcat
b) cleaned up everything
c) unzipped to Tomcat's bin directory, which gave me:
C:\apache-tomcat-7.0.39\bin\.niogit
C:\apache-tomcat-7.0.39\bin\.niogit\system.git
C:\apache-tomcat-7.0.39\bin\.niogit\uf-playground.git
d) started Tomcat
e) deployed Guvnor with Tomcat manager
But I am still getting the same exception. I should note that with all my
previous attempts resulting in this exception, nothing was ever created in
the bin directory. So now I have not "replaced" .niogit, I have simply put
it in place.
*Are you working on Windows 7 as well or some other OS?*

OK, I have just tried this out at home on a Windows 7 computer, without a
(boring) corporate firewall.
Result: *drools-wb-6.0.0.Beta3-tomcat7.0.war install fine on Tomcat 7 and
works.*
I can't think of anything else than a firewall problem. If this GitHub
connection is required, probably a configuration in Guvnor is needed to
define proxy host, port /and authentication /(cannot be passed in on the
command line).
