Hi Denis,
As I've explained before, the full time engineers in Red Hat employ working on the
open source project are busy working on Seam 3/CDI as it is our top priority - we
can't really divert anyone to work on Seam 2 (note that Red Hat does offer a Seam 2.x
product, which we continue to make fixes to for its lifecycle). Also of course community
guys like yourself are able to work on whatever you like.
However, there are clearly a few compatibility issues with JBoss AS 6 as well as a number
of fixes others have put in. To this end, Norman is working on getting as many fixes as he
can from JIRA into Seam (and also nagging others as needed), and we are aiming to do CR1
of Seam 2.2.1 by the end of the month. We'll take this release pretty slowly, probably
aiming for another CR around March, and then a final release around April/May.
So, please do try to get any fixes you can committed (for example take a look at the
patches in JIRA), and feel free to nag others on the team if you need some advice about a
patch or a fix - hopefully with the release schedule above you and others have some time
to get these fixes in.
Specifically, yes, we should archive 2.0.3 in JIRA (done).
Norman has cleaned up 2.2.1 a bit, but more needs doing
There will be no Seam 2.3
When I get a few hours spare (plus some extra patience ;-) I need to go through Seam JIRA
and do a major cleanup, closing out redundant feature requests.

It seems that everybody get very excited about the development of
Seam
v3 and that's cool.
But what about the development of Seam v2?
As discussed in the weld forum, us, users of seam v2/EJB 3.0 but poor
non glassfish v3 (or JBoss v6) users will have to wait for months
before we'll be able to use weld and seam v3 in production.
The question is what are the plans to maintain seam v2.2 until 1) seam
3 is GA and 2) WebSphere/Oracle/WebLogic/<name your production AS
here> offer a JEE6 compliant version of their AS?
All our development is based now on Seam v2 (and I hope many other
users in the world..) and we are very happy with it but I think a
clear statement should be made on the strategy for Seam v2.x in the
meantime for the current Seam users. Or maybe it is somewhere and i
missed it?
Personally I will continue to commit bug fixes when I see the fit for
this in Seam v2.x but what about the rest of you guys? At some point
I'll for sure try to participate to the Seam v3/Seam v2 integration
module when the time will come to migrate our apps (And WebSphere will
provide an implementation of CDI).
Is there a planned released date of Seam v2.2.1? (There are currently
1000+ JIRA entries for Seam v2, 100+ assigned to Seam v2.2.1)
Will we have a Seam v2.2.2 (or maybe v2.3) in the future?
Also for seam v2.0.3 which is in CR since months, should it be
possible to either release this version or cancel it? thanks
