I think if you need that involve real time executions and a heavy sinchronization you don't need to use jBPM. But if you only need to coordinate/orchestate some executions concurrently jBPM is for you. I recommed you to take a look a the official documentation or to my blog (is in spanish, but you can translate it with translate.google.com) for examples. only one question about your scenario: did you have human tasks involved? my scenario: On request (async) from GUI, workflow need to executed, Workflow should should have different simultaneous flow , in which , each flow should do independent work (it may need to wait on conditions, optionally between them for sequential execution- (if needed)) For this case, i wanted first decide, can i use threads / process And if decided, then i need to see how much threads / processes can be spawned / forked please say me if i am not clear in the above explanation. In jBPM the concept of task is about human tasks, so running an .exe is like a system taks. So you can use a Node that execute that .exe and then use a fork to do it in parallel. You questions sounds like you are trying to do something with a heavy multi threading and not a business process. Can you explain your scenario? hi, thanks for the reply. actually i want to spawn multiple instances of (either process or threads, i dono which is better in jBPM) task, and each need to perform work (say for example , run an exe) u said, there is no limitation in forking many process, -- do i need to fork manually or i just need to configure or jBPM will do it for me? -- will it do java Run Time Process for forking, internally? -- "but it depends on how much data you will use." -> can u pls explain on this. Can you tell us your situation and your environments? because is a very open question. You can use forks and subprocess to do that.. there are no limitation.. but it depends on how much data you will use. There is nothing wrong with the documentation except for maybe it being a little bit (too?) concise: 1. If you specify a timer on a node it gets translated to a create-timer and a cancel-timer action. The create-timer action is associated with the node-enter event and the cancel-timer action is associated with the node-leave event. The timer will thus be created and start running when you enter the node, like you would expect. Similarly, the timer will be automatically canceled when you leave the node. So if you leave the node when the timer fires (such as in the example above), the timer will be canceled as expected. There is no cancel-event attribute for timers on nodes. The parser does not parse it and if you add it, it will be ignored. 2. If you specify a timer on a task, it will again be translated to a create-timer action and a cancel-timer action. In this case the create-timer action will be associated with the task-create event. So the timer will be created and start running when the task is created. As for the cancel-timer there is a difference with nodes. You can specify one or more event types with which the cancel-timer can be associated with the cancel-event attribute. The cancel-timer attribute is a comma separated list of event types. It can amongst others include task-create, task-end, task-cancel, task-start, etc. The cancel-timer action gets associated with each of the comma separated values that is specified in the list. So if I would have "task-start, task-end" as the value of the attribute, the cancel-timer action would be executed when the task is started as well as when the task is ended. If no value is specified for the cancel-event, the default is to associate the cancel-timer action with the task-end event. I hope this clarifies he confusion.
