Sad to hear that because that should be a policy for project/component: 1. Build by tycho before commit; 2. Commit when your local build is passed and hudson build is not running and last hudson build is passed; 3. After commit wait for next build on hudson and if it is passed, you're fine to start next cycle from 1. 4. If build on hudson failed it is top priority issue to fix it, by finding the reason or rolling back the changes. Now sometimes hudson build is failing days with errors related to compilation problems (JUnit tests errors is different story) and nobody care. --------------------------------------------------

Note, another big problem is that tests requires dependencies only available behind VPN - that definitely is a killer. --------------------------------------------------

Do we know how many devs have problem with connection? Any way a simple scenario is the best way to encourige people to build it and provide some options to consider if something failed. If there are problems with downloading all deps then there should be specific errors, that leads to using local repo, until then it is not a first option to consider IMO. But first simple way to build is not even mentioned here. --------------------------------------------------

Denis Golovin [http://community.jboss.org/people/dgolovin] commented on the document "How to Build JBoss Tools with Maven 3" To view all comments on this document, visit: http://community.jboss.org/docs/DOC-16604#comment-6298 -------------------------------------------------- It is actually simpler than that and first option is just use unified.update profile. * First and simple option is svn co http://svn.jboss.org/repos/jbosstools/trunk http://svn.jboss.org/repos/jbosstools/trunk jbosstools cd jbosstools/build/parent mvn clean install cd ../.. mvn clean install -Dmaven.test.skip * Second option that should be mentioned is -Dmaven.repo.local=<path-to-folder> which would save $HOME/m2/repo from clattering * Third option how to build w/ testing using -Dmaven.test.skip * Forth option to mention is how to build particular component locally (which is three steps process) There is no reason download target platfrorm and use additional parameters because it updates not too often and usually update is incremental Building jboss jboss tools from eclipse is not resonable because it takes much more time then from console and that has no point because hudson do the build from console anyway. --------------------------------------------------
