We have to be very careful with our definition of "durable" when persisting on the client side.
It may well be a much weaker level of durability than persisting on the server.
Typically client machines might be basic desktop boxes with cheap hard disks not under the direct control of the IT department.
Server boxes may well be highly reliable RAID arrays.
We should therefore be very careful about saying we can guarantee reliable delivery just by persisting on the client side. Of course this depends on the individual setup but it's not always (and probably in most situations) is not an acceptable way to get durability.
In some situations it may well be sufficient e.g. POS. But we should use this as a general technique.

There should be no need to transfer anything from one channel to another.
You just need to load the old channel on the new node, keeping the same channel id.

Probably a good idea on the refactored interface. I'm in the middle of changing the structural deployers so I can throw this in a well.
The ordering really needs to be an external configuration that gets injected into the deployers. Right now its a hard-coded property in most deployers. The bean with the ordering configuration can be the centralized location in a given server configuration.

This should go into the org.jboss.beans.metadata.spi package as its part of the spi. We really need to refactor the mc project into finer grained jars with spi jars broken. Things like the vfs classes should be separated out as well in the container project. We need to mavenize the project as well so that would be a good time to do this.

I can see that we have method 'int getRelativeOrder()' in both interfaces - Deployer and StructureDeployer.
Should we make it a common interface RelativeOrdered or something - also reducing on duplicate Comparator - and that both Deployers will extend it?
I think it would also be good to keep all our orders in the same place - in this RelativeOrdered - or at least in the Deployers interfaces. Thinking from users perspective - a quick overview of orders, and how should he order his own Deployers.
