OK - I'll initially modify HAServiceMBeanSupport.callMethodOnPartition() to return an ArrayList. That shouldn't break any existing code and will make the RPC results available to interested clients. I agree that it would be preferable to have HACluster.callMethodOnCluster() return a List. Changing this will break callers in the cluster module and possibly in another module or two. Of course, it will also break any client code which utilizes this RPC support. I won't make this change unless we decide to proceed but I'll take a quick look at the effect on JBoss code. After Kabir's AOP/MC integration presentation yesterday I'm somewhat more convinced of this approach, but a few things still do concern me: 1) JAR dependency explosion 2) Memory/performance footprint How do other projects deal with the above? I suppose the first question to ask is, is such a fine-grained approach to eviction a worthwhile thing to do? It makes sense in theory, but in practise, is it really a big win? [Design of JBossCache] - Redesigning eviction

This is in reference to this thread on the user forum (see last few posts by nnnnn, bstansberry and myself). In a nutshell, the current eviction design combines a few things, such as when to evict and how to choose candidates for eviction into a single eviction policy. Ideally these two should be separated, along with other aspects such as which thread to use for eviction (separate housekeeping thread or user thread). Normally you configure all your (log4j) logging through global [JBOSS_HOME]\server\default\conf\log4j.xml. All the console messages afterwards are logged to my application's log file which i don't want. they should be logged to jboss console and my application's log file should log only its own messages.
