The overloaded methods that Clebert introduced, have a lot of code duplication, e.g. public void appendAddRecordTransactional(final long txID, final byte recordType, final long id, final EncodingSupport record) throws Exception and public void appendAddRecordTransactional(final long txID, final byte recordType, final long id, final byte[] record) throws Exception Are 90% the same. The similar parts should be refactored into a common method. I have fixed all the issues apart from 7). This requires more thought since we probably need to reset the callback somehow - i.e. we need to wait on completion more than once - once at prepare and then again on commit/rollback. Unfortunately I don't know how the issue can be fixed w/o doing that "complication" work. This is essential to work it out. This happens during marshalling, so I need - the XSD against which the object is marshalled; - the classes and initialization part of the object being marshalled. keep it as is so that old configuration files still keep working. users that don't have a problem with it don't want to be forced to look in the release notes to find what they should change in their configuration. i don't see the problem of keeping it in the codebase. removing the old stuff from the docs is a good idea, though. to prevent that new users configure the old stuff. If the handler chain copy is meant to prevent a port from having its own handlers changed by somebody else, we could also think about not registering the client for notifications when the metadata changes (cfr the observer/observable in place there) and manually ask for binding handler chain rebuild when the config-name/file is set through a given port. Could this be reasonable (I'm not completely aware of the reason that led to the observer/observable pattern being used)? The service will still be touched by an action on the port, anyway (IOW this does not solve the problem completely). It is not so much about "like" and "don't like". You change results in a stack specific deployment aspect that is not usable in any but one specific container. Do you understand the fundamentals behind SPI, container/stack integration. The build should enforce these principals to prevent these types of mistakes. If it does not, it is actually my mistake.
