That vfs holds the info is a profile implementation detail, and that the vfs my be involved is why it should not be in the deployer layer. There is no requirements for vfs to be used for deployers. We have run into this with pure programatic deployments not having associated VirtualFiles. The hot deployment function depends on the profile and how it stores deployments. A vfs based profile has to deal with the vfs aspects that would affect this. As I see it, metadata is server side structure contract. And with jboss-structure.xml you can have it any where. And it's only (vfs) deployment context that holds that info - which is what we don't want to expose, impl detail. I've commited the changes - removed the old ctor. I was able to deploy ALR's entity test. There is a small hack in there, since I forgot to handle (vfs)zip in EJB3 code. And I see that all persistence.xml's need namespace to be set. Or is this part of schema validation? Will no-namespace persistence.xml map to new PersistenceMetaData? Its really not usable though as unless something is producing the new org.jboss.metadata.jpa.spec.PersistenceMetaData from the old org.jboss.ejb3.metadata.jpa.spec.PersistenceUnitsMetaData, persistence units will not be processed correctly. Restoration of the PersistenceUnitsMetaData based ctor also requires a wrapper to map from the PersistenceUnitsMetaData to the new PersistenceMetaData. Sure it could be, but the current contract for the container is rather opaque in terms of the integration layer. The container shows up as an Object in the KernelAbstraction.install call. The Ejb3Deployment is the main integration api for the Ejb3Deployer currently.
