The userRoles is imo not even a dirty solution. It is what I meant with an extension to jbpm (maybe the identity expression evaluation can be used for this?) I had a small look and transition accepts a condition element, which (afaik) currently only uses an expression attribute to be evaluated. Maybe adding a tag to the decision would help, so more complex things can be used, including calling out to a businessrule.
