Ultimately there should be separation of the deployments in a profile from its definition so that a server has a canonical deployment repository, and a profile like default or web is a listing of the bootstrap, deployers, and application deployments to pull from the repository. Right now the definition of a Profile is an implementation detail that still bootstraps from the old file system implicit definition based on the contents of known directories.
