Later on Sohil pointed out that even CMS does not cache query. The code is no longer used and is going to be removed. When I said, INVALIDATION_SYNC does not help, I meant that numbers do not show any better or worse result. Just to make sure I am on the same page, my configuration is Pessimistic locking + read committed + invalidation_sync. I will however disable use_query_cache flag from configuration as well.
