I have commited the code that allows the content to be pluggable. There is still a bit of work at the command level as for now the choice of the window rendering is hardcoded. I'll revisit that later. My next step is to have the CMS stuff in a separate module (core-cms) that will create a sar file that will be nested in the jboss-portal.sar. So it allows a to use the portal core without the CMS things. Then I'll do same with our UI portlets (core-ui).
