As I can see in the code, the "esbToBpmVars" property (from the processdefinition.xml) IS used, but I guess you have to copy it fto Message.getHeader().getCall().getTo() as well (like the token id stuff). Does that help? Best thing I can encourage is to look at the code how it is implemented. Even is that is a bit wired in the current implementation (will be rewritten in future).
