The spec seems to be completely silent on this. I would be interested to know how JCA treats this. Does the JCA layer ever close connections that have XASessions that are still enlisted in a global tx, or does it never do this. Problem, is, even if the JCA layer never does this, Jo dumb user who is using the XAConnection might, and we need to know what to do when he closes that connection that has sessions still enlisted. For now, I will treat explicitly closing a connection after prepare has been called but before commit/rollback has been called the same as a server crash, i.e. the resource manager retains the prepared state so it's available to any subsequent recover() calls. If an XASession, created from an XAConnection does some work in a global transaction, the transaction gets prepared, then the connection gets explicitly closed (invoke of close()) before the transaction has been committed or rolled back by the transaction manager, what is the correct behaviour? Should the messaging resource manager, locally roll back (remove) the prepared state for that connection? Or it should it retain it, in the hope that the transaction manager will eventually call rollback or commit by obtaining an xaresource by recover() for instance? [Other JBoss Development Design] - How to build large Web-Applications?

I'm develloping a mid range JBoss based web application facing that it's darn heavy work, before you can go online. During this work, i have asked myselve offen...isn't there a tool based approach to this or at leased part of this work? I mean...what do they do, who devellop web apps with hundreds of JSP Pages and enterprise beans? By the way, this isn't my first JBoss based web app... In the past i had a glance at some tools, but it's always the same. There is alwas a major drawback. Take a look at this tool i.e.. The "Java Studio Creator" from SUN. http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/index.jsp At the first glance it looks like a great tool. When looking closer at it - always with your model-viel-controler and your enterprise beans in mind - you begin to suspect... "Hey that's not the clean architecture that you want". You want a modular, scalable, 4-tier architecture. Not an architecture where the database sticks to the view or an overload of (more or less useles) tags in the JPS-Page. It's almost releaving reading a "Java Studio Creator" product rating like this: http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/community/ratings.... Ok for prototyping, not for production By Java web application development expert from Leiden, the Netherlands on 11/21/2006 Pros:Good Value Cons:Poor Features Best Uses:Prototyping a GUI Nice for mocking up a GUI to show to your client when eliciting requirements, or for building a simple throwaway web page. But don't use this for building production quality systems. Why? After just having been involved with the maintainance of a JSC created application, I conclude: The web layer code generated by the tool (especially when using the "rave" ui components) is : - not web standards compliant; for instance inline styles are all over the place in your html (jsp) page - just too much : Why generate (and bind to) a member object in a JSF backing bean, including getters and setters, for just about every element on the page? 99% of them are never used. - connecting ui controls directly to (database) data provider components to get data on the screen. This might look handy, but generates code which really hard to maintain. There is no clear modularization of gui, business logic and data access functionality. If your database schema changes, you'll find yourself changing code all over the place. These factors result in applications which run sluggish (to say the best), can not easily be given a different look and feel, and in general are unnecessarily hard to maintain. Not what you want in any serious web application. Has anyone worked on a large application server based, web application project? What architecture was used? Was al the stuff hand coded (from an army of HTML/JSP/Java programmers)? I mean, this topic isn't complete uninteresting! Writing these lines i came up thinking of the artificial intelligence (AI) hype in the 80's. I don't know hwo, but those days some company was stating they had "real world AI solutions". And that's all it about: "Real world solutions". You might get a kick of a fancy shrink wrapped software, but when you get down to do the work, you want a modular, high scalably, 4-tier architecture ... fast. Or am i asking too much? I got Trailblazer2 mostly working in the same environment (plus one other addition - I replace the default Jboss transaction manager with JBoss Transactions). One issue I found with the Trailblazer is with the ManagerJMS. It was looking up "UILConnectionFactory". I changed it to "ConnectionFactory", which should be portable between JBoss Messaging and JBossMQ. I also found a minor nit on the build script. The following did not work for me, as there is no build directory under jbossesb. | <property name="org.jboss.soa.esb.lib.dir" value="${org.jboss.soa.samples.trailblazer.esb_home}/build/jbossesb/lib"/> | So I removed the build/jbossesb and it used the lib directory under the trailblazer directory. Another questions: where should quote.st be deployed? It is not being found when attempting to send the email. This is all with RC1. Yes the URL handling in trunk was recently changed, and it makes assumptions about the URL format that lead to this and other problems. In general, I think shifting to a pull approach using the same process as the other state transfer types is the right thing to do. One set of code to maintain, etc, etc. The following bits look like I'm arguing in the opposite direction, but takes that as "food for thought", i.e. inputs into the discussion. There are a couple problems with using a regular pull-type state transfer: 1) Deadlock problems, which is what led last spring to the push approach. Problem is new cache C comes online, decides A and B are its buddies, so sends A and B an RPC telling them. A and B get the RPC and request state. Problem is they are using the JG up_thread to request state, so it deadlocks. That's probably solvable, but at the cost of making the buddy group formation protocol more complex. 2) A and B now have to independently request state rather than C doing a single push. Don't know if there are any issues with the coordination involved there. Now that we are using anycast, the network utilization is likely the same either way. One thing to think about is whether the JBC-315 issue applies here. Or can it be made to go away w/o relying on FLUSH? Here the data in question is *owned* by the node that sends it. Anything that changes that state is originating on that server -- either via a locally originating put/remove call, or via a response to a gravitation call that the node sent out. And I browsed the web cvs on the sourceforge ,there's not such module. Is the sourceforge cvs files outdated? Confused! Thanks!
