[Design of JBoss jBPM] - process deployment from WAR file

The way processes have to be deployed now, does not realy fit our procedures and the way we use processes. Let me explain. A process with the versioned classes and taskforms is part of a bigger web application. Most of this is not versioned in the way jBPM processes are. So most of the webapplication is in a war file: - other pages - images - resource files - roles (in web.xml) - .... and in a separate file the process info. Now if I look at the structure the process eclipse is getting, it's looking more and more like a war file war: | /WEB-INF/web.xml | /META-INF/ | /WEB-INF/lib/... | /WEB-INF/classes/OwnClass.class | /myPage.html | processArchive | /processdefinition.xml | /classes/my/OwnClass.class | /form1.xhtml | There was a discussion on versioning and there is an issue in jira on using the context classloader in jBPM What I'm thinking about is is putting all the relevant information in a war file and generating a hash of all these files and this into a total hash In the warfile is a reference to a deployservlet (so this should be in EACH web.xml in EACH war file), which takes this total hash and compares it with a stored hash, if it differs the new process is deployed, in combination with all classes, forms etc... The challenge is to give each war file a unique context. So each version of the process get's it's unique url, but in such a way that the jbpm engine can determine what it should be. This is needed for having the web-console still work (otoh, should it? Wasn't it meant for RAD? not full APPS?) The unique urls could either be done by deploying as an ear, where you can have files (application.xml) which define the context of war files in it, or a unique name for the war file. Using the hash for this would be a nice solution. There are lots of other advantages to this (imo) e.g. an expanded deployment where the form files are not read from the db, but from the war structure. Just changing one .xhtml file and not 'deploy' the new process (since just a page changed) would make it instantly available and reduces the times deployment is needed by a huge amount. Maybe there are other advantages and even disadvantages. So please lets discuss those here. These were just my initial thoughts. probably this kind of injection should move from jboss-portlet.xml to jboss-app.xml as it is really about putting service proxies in the servlet context and is not really tied to portlets. This question should be in the JBoss Portal forum. not the developers one. you have to inject the CMS service in the services that your portlets may access. see the jboss-portlet.xml for this. something like : <service-name>CMS</service-name> <service-class>org.jboss.portal.cms.CMS</service-class> <service-ref>:service=CMS</service-ref> look in the manual, wiki, etc... there are some more details. According to jassSecurityDomain implementation, KeyStorePassword can be Plain Text {EXT} command {CLASS} command Now I have given these two provisions in SecurityStore as we need to be independent of the mc that we are deploying in. I was thinking to write Testcases for these two scenarios. Any idea where I can get a {EXT} command line tool and how do I integrate with our code. Should I put it as a thirdparty library? I can use the jbosssx.jar but the PBEUtils does not have a decode command line interface. Please help! Hi, I am developing an application which interacts with LDAP. Once I develop this application, I should have wrap the sesion bean as web service. My questions are (1). Do we need to represents LDAP containers as value objects? Like if the tree has Printers, Files, Accounts then shld we create PrinterValueObject, FilesValueObject ,AccountValueObject and associations? (2). Do we have any design patterns to interact with LDAP and expose them as web service? Thanks for the quick reply. I am really confused as to why it works under 1.5 and simply fails under 1.6. It looks ugly with errors about legacy deployers not deploying because they are looking for the obsolete jboss.system:service=MainDeployer, and there are no deployers for rars, wars, but a lot of the legacy services are starting up. I think its a useful starting point for porting the other deployers and services as needed. The biggest hack is pushing the jmx classes into the JMXClassLoader bean and associating this with the VFSDeploymentScanner bean. We really need to create a complete class loader aspect and integrated into the VDF. Like I said, I'm going to focus on a rewrite of the VFSClassLoader to incorporate OSGI bundle and JSR277 notions to come up with the next generation unified class loader as the basis for this next week.
