I'm not quite sure what the goal is either. Is it to replace the current theme/layout mechanism in Portal? If yes, the layout engine should be flexible to accommodate people's need with minimum development. Ideally, the generated markup would be semantically correct (not only, would it pass HTML validation but the elements used to structure the markup would actually make sense based on their intent as opposed to how they are rendered by user agents) and not rely on tables for the layout. This would make it easier for designers to just change the layout by changing the CSS. The markup should also support accessibility needs as much as feasible. Oh yeah, and I'm leaning towards Facelets for now because it is extremely lightweight and gives us the best of both worlds on the UI and backend. But once we have some better definition I think the choice will get clearer. This is a great conversation to get started... In response to the proposed frameworks + their templating systems: 1) Tiles has their "Composite Pattern", which is just a layout and decoration framework (Same for SiteMesh). Do we really want a decoration based templating system for portlet windows and the theme framework. I'm sure we will for actual portlet development, but these frameworks are designed with your basic webapp in mind. 2) Wicket is generating markup from code which is cool, and the same for GWT. There is a use case for these frameworks and a lot of it stems from Java developers not wanting to deal with browser quirks and other UI stuff that they know nothing about. The portal budget allows for a senior UI developer so the hardcore developers can focus on what they need to focus on. To start with we need to understand why we are choosing one of these frameworks. And that brings up another good point. We are talking about two things 1) a web framework and 2) a layout/templating system. So, a few of my questions are: 1) What are we designing for? If it's a grid based design that has a fluid layout (I'm assuming), then we should define that here. Is this just for the dynamic layout of ever changing portlet windows? 2) Are we creating our own components for the presentation framework, or should we try to leverage some OOB ones. 3) Based on the answer of number 1 + 2 we can more closely evaluate potential frameworks and eliminate others. The thread on the dev list is "Does this seem like a compiler bug?". Jason pointed to this bug which seems to capture the problem: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6557279 The generics tutorial talks about Collection(?) being "... (pronounced âcollection of unknownâ) , that is, a collection whose element type matches anything.", so I don't see how Collection(Class(?)) can be interpreted as a collection of a single type of class. Just try the following: Collection<Class<? extends Collection>> c1 = new ArrayList<Class<? extends Collection>>(); | c1.add(ArrayList.class); | c1.add(Collection.class); | c1.add(String.class); add(java.lang.Class<? extends java.util.Collection>) in java.util.Collection<java.lang.Class<? extends java.util.Collection>> cannot be applied to (java.lang.Class<java.lang.String>) | c1.add(String.class); | ^ | 1 error As expected. I am new about jbpm. I want to retrieve all tasks of a particular actorId, but by using the following code, only those open tasks are retrieved. JbpmContext jContext = JbpmConfiguration.getInstance().createJbpmContext(); List taskList = jContext.getTaskList(actorId); I checked the hibernate query generated by this method, there is a condition: taskinstan0_.ISOPEN_=1 If I want to retrieve all tasks including those closed tasks and review them, how should I do?
