That's a good point. As stupid as doing that is, somebody will do it. You've convinced me - I'll finish merging the logic from 4.2 to prevent users from calling local interfaces remotely. [Design of EJB 3.0] - Local Interface Binding in 5.0

This was briefly discussed a while back ... Do we want to bind Local interfaces to the java: namespace? This would eliminate all of the logic for checking to see if a Local interface was looked up on a remote JBoss instance. If you can look it up, it's valid ... I can't think of any problems with this except it really breaks backward compatibility, which I realize isn't a goal of 5.0 but still it's a major change. Pentaho can use both Jasper Reports and BIRT (http://wiki.pentaho.org/display/PentahoDoc/Integrating+BIRT+and+Jasper) , so if we go for integrating Pentaho, customers can choose either solution. otoh, it is a more complex product compared to 'just' using BIRT or JasperReports embedded. Linux binary redistribution is a hard thing because of dependencies o different versions of Libc. You will need to recompile it using the compile.sh under linux64. For the BAM work I did in the past I looked at Jasper Reports, but rejected it early on. In the end, we did all reporting by dumping data to Excel. We should think through the requirements for reports before settling on a solution. Are the reports on historical data or current data? Are there canned reports provided by the product? Is there a requirement for the user to be able to create custom reports? What type of user would specify the custom reports? An Eclipse based report design tool may not be appropriate environment for a business user to specify a report. What type of user would consume the reports? How will the reports be delivered? (screen, spreadsheet, pdf, hardcopy?). Another criteria for the technology selection is the overall architecture. Is the database access all via Hibernate? If so, is the product providing a set of named queries (that users could augment), or using the Hibernate criteria API? Or will the reporting tool go directly to the database? is the database being designed to support arbitrary queries? Will the reporting UI be integrated into the BAM dashboard UI, or is it totally separate? I am having exactly the same problem. If I copy the files to the Windows system the problem remains the same. Has anyone made any progress on this problem since it was originally reported? My linux version is Linux 2.4.21-27.ELsmp. Thank you. I will be updating JBoss-head to the latest stable snapshot EAP 4.3 is using now. I have done a bunch of changes regarding stopping and starting the server... It's just that I was focusing on the 4.3 branch... I will be working on merging my changes on JBoss 5 now. And i will take a look on this NPE specifically, if the snapshot would fix it.
