[Design of JBoss jBPM] - VariableInstance.getObject()

Is there any reason why getObject is protected in VariableInstance? I believe it would be better to make it public and just return null if there is no data. This way the web console can access the "object" property of a VariableInstance via EL without fear of an exception being thrown for certain types. The plan is to move to JAX-WS 2.1, but after the jbossws 2.0 release which focuses on JAX-WS 2.0. There isn't too many changes in 2.1, so it will be a short release cycle. Is JAVA_HOME pointing to a JRE or a JDK? The jdk tools.jar needs to be on the classpath so that the java compiler can be invoked. I am guessing this is the issue. One idea that could be helpful for the jBPM user is to insert the ESB message (or just the body of the message) into the ContextInstance. That way the workflow could have easy access to the data. Ok, forget about the previous two posts. I have a prototype impl ready and working (it is doing what expected and it doesn't break any of the existing tests). Just need to write some real tests for this new feature :-). I'll do this tomorrow, and if the tests pass, I'll commit the code (since it doesn't effect the previous non-scoped stuff) and then we can discuss this further.
