That is probably true for the newer more aspectized deployers, but legacy deployers like ejb2 and the war deployer still have way too many dependencies on other jbossas pieces to pull out. The Ejb3Deployer does have other integration pieces like JBossASDepdencyPolicy, JBossASKernel, Ejb3JBoss5Deployment, so those would have to be separated out into another layer and injected when configured for jbossas. [Design of POJO Server] - Deployers in AS

We've previously talked about the deployers being an integration point with AS, and therefore should be placed within the AS source tree. Why is this the case? I thought the deployers only depended on (sometimes each other and) MC. If they were to be removed, we wouldn't have to mock up/recreate their functionality when Unit Testing other areas that depend on Deployers' output. As a concrete example, the EJB3 Proxy Component makes use of output from the MergedJBossMetaDataDeployer and Ejb3Deployer. Am I mocking up this data when I could be setting up an MC Deployer Chain from the real thing? [Design of JBoss Profiler] - Client cannot connect

I'm using CR8 with JBoss 4.2.2 on Mac OSX 10.4. JBoss starts OK and I can access the profiling MBean to start and stop profiling, etc. But I cannot get the client to connect. That's terrible. You would be doing lots of string concatenations to just throw them away on the limbo of the Garbage Collection. MINA also uses ConcurrentLinkedQueue a lot internally. I tried a synchronized circular queue, which is similar to ArrayDequeue, but the performance difference was negligible. Seeing sun.misc.Unsafe or compareAndSwap() in your profiler as a hot spot might mean there's not much room left for performance improvement, unless any innovative redesign exists. What about just not calling isTraceEnabled() and call log.trace() directly? It should perform better when the message is simple enough. FYI, with aop 2.0.0.CR9 (and probably CR8, too), the start-up time of jboss has gone up again with the default config booting in ~50 secs. It used to be ~30 secs.
