[EJB 3.0 Development] - EJB metadata and the jndi policy decorators

While integrating no-interface metadata support in AS i see that there's one more stumbling block - the jndi policy decorator(s). From what i see of those decorators, they are meant to provide (decorated) jndi names on the metadata:

And then when we want to decorate the merged metadata, we create a new instance of this decorator (notice that the decorator itself is a metadata instance):

The real problem here is that the decorator itself extends from the metadata (i.e. it's an metadata itself) and we instantiate this decorated metadata and pass it along. Most of the methods in this decorated metadata have been overriden to pass the control to the delegate metadata from which this is constructed. However, if any new methods gets added (like we just added for the EJB3.1 support), then unless someone goes and updates this class to override such methods, this decorated metadata is going to return incorrect information. For example (pseudo code):

This is going to be an issue with the introduction of more and more 3.1 metadata support (for ex: async-methods).
So here's what i was thinking:
The decorator really just needs to update/decorate the metadata with appropriate JNDI names. It shouldn't really mess with anything else. So why not have something like:

This decorator uses the jndipolicy and an implementation of ResolveableJndiNameJbossSessionBeanMetadata to decorate the bean with the JNDI names. The implementation of ResolveableJndiNameJbossSessionBeanMetadata looks like this (i just moved it out of the existing JBossSessionPolicyDecorator):

So now that we have a decorator (which is *not* an metadata in itself), we can use it to decorate the existing/original metadata as follows:

Overall, the difference here is that we have now moved away from the decorator being a metadata in itself.
My local testcases (around no-interface) are now passing with these changes. There are some more things that i'll have to work on (for example: a decorator for service beans etc...), but before i do anything around this, i wanted to have other's opinion on this change. Any thoughts on how we should proceed? Does this look OK?

[JBoss Microcontainer Development] - Re: Testing Deployers with new Reflect + ClassPool

It runs fine for me now. Initially I thought there was a deadlock in org.jboss.test.classpool.jbosscl.test.CtClassCreationTestCase, but it completed after about 2 minutes.

I've not been able to reproduce this, so I'm not sure if it is something to worry about or if it was something weird in the JDK since it was the first time I was using it after installing it?

[JBoss AS Development] - JBAS-7507: UserTransaction & Nested Transactions

This thread is for discussing JBAS-7507 and its implementation.
When nested transactions support is explicitly disabled (the default), we need to throwing a NotSupportedException if a remote (or even local) client calls UserTransaction.begin() twice on the same thread with no rollback/commit in between.
A larger question is whether or not we should be supporting nested transactions at all. While Arjuna supports them, it seems that there is little practical application for them based on comments from Mark Little and others since not many resource managers support them. If we don't throw a NotSupportedException when the Arjuna nested transactions flag is enabled, then we have to ensure that code like the tx sticky load balancing policies support them (more work, and I imagine there are many other examples too).
Dimitris asked that we discuss the implementation for the throwing of the NSE in the disabled case, and that's the focus of JBAS-7507, but I think there is potentially a larger question here too (that may be a different discussion, however).

[JBoss Profiler Development] - Simple (hopefully) new user questions.

First, I've read through the documentation and *think* I have everything setup correctly.
Since I don't see any threads here about this issue, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with how I've configured it or it's just a concept error on my part.
What I've done:
1. copied the files to their correct locations and updated the jboss-profiler.conf file.
2. updated my run.conf file with the jboss-profiler tags.
3. restarted jboss
4. called the command line client with "startProfiler"
(4.1 I also called the command line client with "enable" here during one of my tests).
5. run my web services calls to JBoss.
7. Here I have tried both:
stopProfiler, getSnapShot
and just
getSnapShot
My problem. All the time values for all of the objects/methods are 0.00 ms. I see no threads, no "Most Time" values, no hot spots nothing.
Am I just missing something simple? Do I HAVE to instrument the code somehow? am I not turning something on correctly? It seems like the profiler is working, but I get no data.
